YORK WINS BATTLE OF TOP TWO TEAMS
This weekend saw a battle between the top two teams in the league with York continuing to dominate their competition defeating the Marauders in three close sets (26-24, 29-27, 25-19). Jason Kinoshita led the team with 11 kills and 2 digs while teammate Sholan Trivedi added 9 kills and 3 digs in the victory. Steve Murray and Peter Hrkal both played a strong game for the Marauders with 15 and 10 kills and 6 and 4 digs respectively. With the win, the York Lions handed the Marauders only their second loss of the season as they continued their undefeated streak to improve to 10-0 on the season.
Ryerson 3, Waterloo 0
Ryerson dominated the Warriors defeating them in convincing fashion in three straight sets (25-15, 25-21, 25-15). Ryerson was led by third year player Ryan Vandenburg who had 14 kills, 2 blocked shots, and 1 dig in the victory. Fellow Ram, Nicolas Beaver added 9 kills, 2 digs, and one blocked shot while teammate Lukas Porosa had 6 digs of his own in the game. Leading scorer for Waterloo was Taylor Hall who had 12 kills, 12 digs and one blocked shot while teammates Brent Forrest and Brian Fuchs played strong defensively with 26 and 33 digs a peice. With the win Ryerson improved to 7-3 on the season moving into a tie for third place with the Lancers.
Guelph 3, Queen's 0
The Guelph Gryphons upset the Golden Gaels at home on Friday defeating them in three sets (25-13, 25-20, 25-17). Matt Peters led the team with 11 kills, 6 digs, and 2 blocked shots while teammate Jordan Reynolds had 10 kills, 9 digs, and 3 blocked shots in the victory. The Golden Gaels, Andrew Bridgeman played a strong game for the Golden Gaels with 6 kills and 6 digs but it was enough to overcome the strong offensive play of the Gryphons. With the win, Guelph improved to 4-6 on the season.
