MUSTANGS EVEN SERIES WITH 3-1 VICTORY
With the Lions grabbing the first match of the series (a 3-2 win Tuesday at Tait McKenzie Centre in York), the Mustangs needed to come out firing on all cylinders to stretch the series to three.
And as has been the case all season, it was fifth-year outside hitter and OUA all-star Peter Sidler doing much of the firing. Western won the first set at Alumni Hall 25-22, suffered a minor setback, dropping the second set 14-25, and then wrapped up the match with a pair of wins of 25-22 and 25-21.
Sidler led all attackers for both sides with 16 kills. Second-year left side and OUA all-star Alex Jerome and third-year left side Alex Dumond added 10 and nine kills respectively.
Rookie setter Andrew Hinchey, the team's third OUA all-star and the 2004-05 CIS assists leader, recorded 43 assists in the contest.
First-year right side Jordan Matthews and first-year left side Sholan Trivedi paced the Lions with nine kills apiece.
The third and final match of the series goes Saturday at York. First serve is 1 p.m.
