W-HOCKEY ROUNDUP: Gryphons down York for ninth straight win
The Gryphons women’s hockey team recorded their ninth straight win this evening by downing the Lions by a final score of 7-2.
The win advances the Gryphons to 16-3-2 on the season and drops the Lions to 4-12-3.
The Gryphons put forth a balanced offensive effort this evening with six different women contributing goals. Jenna Lanzarotta (Mississauga, ON) led the charge with two goals, while Christine Grant (Mississauga, ON), Emily Corbett (Toronto), Averi Nooren (Aylmer, ON), Amanda Parkins (Kitchener, ON) and Kelsey Rozon (Kirkland Lake, ON) each chipped in one apiece.
The first period was a high scoring affair with five goals scored. The Lions were first to find the back of the net, when Chloe Milano (Maple, ON) snuck one past Guelph netminder, Stephanie Nehring (Oshawa, ON). The Gryphons were quick to respond, netting four unanswered goals and led the Lions 4-1 after the first period.
The Gryphons continued to roll in the second period, and extended their lead by three. Lanzarotta notched her second goal of the night at 5:48 while Parkins tallied her 16th goal of the season at 11:22 while on the power play. Rozen nabbed her first goal of the season at 14:06.
Midway through the final frame, Katrina Tollis (Hamilton, ON) scored for York to bring the final score to 7-2 in favour of the home team.
Stephanie Nehring earned the win for the Gryphons and faced 17 shots, while Megan Lee (Orillia, ON) and Jessalyn Bogacki (Thunder Bay, ON) split the goaltending duties for York and faced a combined 38 shots on net.
