W-HOCKEY ROUNDUP: Badgers steal points from No. 6 Guelph
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's hockey team (0-4-1 OUA) came up short against the No. 6 ranked Guelph Gryphons (4-1-0 OUA) dropping a 4-3 shootout decision at the Seymour-Hannah Centre Wednesday night.
The Badgers opened the scoring 1:56 in as sophomore Jaclyn Conacher (Burlington, Ont.) and junior Katie Howlett (Burlington, Ont.) setup sophomore Laura Neu (Ayr, Ont.) for her second of the year.
Sophomore Brittney Cabral (Hamilton, Ont.) would put the Badgers up 2-0 midway through the second period as she beat Guelph starter Brooke Siddall for her first of the season.
Just over two minutes later, at 12:43, Guelph's Amanda Parkins would cut the lead in half registering her fifth goal of the season, with the assist going to Michelle Sabourin.
Midway through the third period, the Badgers would regain the two-goal lead, as senior Brianne Veale (Sault Ste Marie, Ont.) setup junior Jessica Fickel (Fort Erie, Ont.) for her first.
With just under five minutes left in regulation, Parkins would setup Emily Corbett who put it past Brock starter Emily Kelly (Port Elgin, Ont.) to make it 3-2.
Guelph would tie the time 3-3 at 16:37, as Gina Murray added her first of the campaign with Christine Grant and Jessica Pinkerton adding the assists.
After a scoreless overtime it would come down to shootout.
In shootout it would take six shooters before a scorer, as the Gryphons Corbett put it past Kelly for the road victory.
In goal, Kelly registered 37 saves in the loss. Siddall collected 15 saves for her fourth win of the season.
The Badgers next action is Friday, October 19th when they travel to Kingston to take on the No. 7 ranked Queen's Gaels. Brock is still in search of their first victory of the season.

October 18 - York @ Laurier
WATERLOO, Ont. (October 18, 2012) - Candice Styles of Orangeville, Ont., scored the only goal of the shootout as the No. 8 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women's hockey team (4-1-0) snuck past the York Lions (1-3-1) 3-1 on Thursday night.
The Hawks picked up the win despite allowing the Lions to claw their way back into the contest with two goals late in the third period.
