IVANOV NAMED BROCK WOMEN'S SOCCER COACH
"We are very pleased to have someone with Charles credentials and obvious interest in the women's program to move us ahead," said Adams. "I anticipate that Charles will build on the foundation laid by Ron Gourlay to take the program to the next level."
Ivanov brings over 25 years of soccer knowledge and experience to Brock. He has 13 years of professional soccer experience, having played three seasons with the first team Club Slavia Sofia in Bulgaria. He also has 10 years of coaching experience, including seven years as the assistant of the Brock Badgers men's program.
For the past seven years he has been the Club Head Coach with the Concord Soccer Club. He is also currently the head coach with the Bryst International Academy Girls 15-17 and St. Catharines Concord Boys Under 19.
In 1991 he graduated with an Honour's Degree in Physical Education at the Higher Institute of Physical Education in Sofia, Bulgaria.
In 1991 he received the Bulgarian "B" Soccer License and in 2003 he received the Canadian "A" Soccer License making Brock the only Canadian university program to have two head coaches with A Licenses. He also been a Course Conductor with the Ontario Soccer Association since 1999.
"I am lucky to be inheriting a program that has a strong foundation built by Ron Gourlay," said Ivanov. "I want to develop the student-athletes as human beings first and soccer players second. The university experience is about building young people and the soccer program is an extension of that. Since coming to Brock as an assistant with the men's program , I have been very impressed by the dedication and hard work of these young men and women."
