CARLETON AND TORONTO REMAIN UNDEFEATED IN THE EAST
The Carleton Ravens Women's Soccer team improves to 3-0-1 for 10-points in the OUA East with a 3-1 victory over the RMC Paladins, at Keith Harris Stadium, in Ottawa this past weekend.
The Ravens opened the scoring at the 39th minute on a goal by Samantha Sauve (Ottawa, Ontario) who was set up by Amber Prosia (Hamilton, Ontario) to give the Ravens a halftime lead.
In the second half, RMC put pressure on Carleton's net and Melanie Ross (Cochrane, Alberta) set up Calley Gray (Brookside, Nova Scotia) to beat Carleton's Kate Shaughnessy (Ottawa, Ontario) for the first goal against the Ravens defense in more than three matches.
Carleton came alive after the goal and veteran Hilary Peirce (Ottawa, Ontario) scored the winning goal off a corner where RMC's goalkeeper Erica Pessotto (Milton, Ontario) got her hand on the ball before Peirce knocked the ball into net at the 71st minute. Aisha Stinson (Ottawa, Ontario) scored the Ravens insurance goal at the 78th minute to seal the victory over RMC.
Shaughnessy earned her third victory of the OUA East season and now posts a 0.75 goals against average.
Toronto 2, Laurentian 0
Erica Basso (King City, Ontario) scored both goals for the Toronto Varsity Blues as they pushed past the Laurentian Voyageurs in women's soccer action this past weekend.
The Lady Vees started the game very slowly and Toronto was able to control the midfield from the start of the match. The Toronto front line created chances to score while their defence did not allow the Lady Vees to create much offence of their own. At the end of the day the Lady Vees found themselves on the wrong end of a 2-0 score line.
"Toronto played a very good game of soccer and we did not," said Lady Vees head coach Rob Gallo. "We'll have to regroup and keep battling and try to recover from our mistakes."
