OTTAWA AND YORK LEAD EAST AND WEST, RACE FOR SECOND REMAINS TIGHT
The McMaster women's soccer team moved to just two points out of second place in the OUA West with a 4-0 defeat of the Waterloo Warriors on Sunday afternoon.
The Marauders started fast and put pressure on the Waterloo defenders but could not find the needed scoring touch early.
That would change in the 34th minute when Kirsten Walker (Whitby ON) converted a McMaster corner kick to score. Two minutes later, team captain Sam Batten (Stouffville, Ont.) finished a great passing combination with Claire Godkin (Waterloo, Ont.) to increase the McMaster lead to 2-0. The Marauders continued to roll. Three minutes later rookie Maria Cusimano (Toronto, Ont.) struck another corner kick and Carly Moore (Sarnia, Ont.) contacted the ball with a great header to put it past the Waterloo goalkeeper. MAC headed to the locker room at half time up 3-0.
The second half opened with the Marauders playing into a very strong wind. That didn't slow them down as four minutes into the half Leah Henderson (Forest ON) scored her first goal of the season on a header setup by a great cross from Batten.
McMaster continued to press the remainder of the contest and secured the 4-0 win.
Dunn once again was fantastic as she set up most of the scoring combinations and for the second contest of the weekend she was asked drop into midfield to tighten things up and to distribute the ball to the forwards.
McMaster will continue to chase second place when they host the Windsor lancers next Saturday, October 6th at 1:00 pm on Alumni Field.

Gee Gees goalkeeper Katarina Vulic (Oakville, Ont.) recorded the shutout for the visiting side, which is the only undefeated side in the OUA at 9-0.
Carleton 4, RMC 0
The Carleton University Ravens (7-3-1) celebrated yet another victory on the season when they defeated the Royal Military College Paladins (1-5-3) by a score of 4-0. This improves their overall points on the season to 22 as they try to close the five point gap on leaders Ottawa University Gee Gees (9-0).
After scoring four second half goals in their 4-0 victory on Saturday, the Ravens scored four first half goals against the Paladins. Led by Aisha Stinson (Ottawa, Ont.) who scored a goal after eight minutes and added her second, the Ravens fourth, at the 39 minute mark. The pair gives Stinson four goals on the season. Carolyn Young (Kitchener, Ont.) and Amanda Ngwafusi (Ottawa, Ont.) netted the two remaining Carleton goals to increase the lead to four by halftime.
RMC struggled offensively to create many scoring chances while goalkeeper Erica Pessotto (Milton, Ont.) was under pressure from the Raven attack for much of the match. Pessotto made some key saves in the second to hold the Ravens scoreless in the second. Carleton goalkeeper Kate Shaughnessy (Ottawa, Ont.) was credited with one save as she earned her 6th shutout and 7th victory of the 2007 OUA East campaign. Shaughnessy has lowered her goals against average to 0.73 for the season.
