CARLETON ROLLS PAST TRENT, OTTAWA DOMINATES RMC
On Saturday afternoon in Peterborough the Carleton University Ravens (9-4-2) celebrated a 4-0 victory over Trent University (1-11-2). Carleton could finish anywhere from second to fourth place in the OUA East as University of Ottawa (13-1-0) has already clinched the title.
Carleton had control of the game from the opening minutes of the game through to the last whistle. In the first half of play Raven Amanda Ngwafusi (Ottawa, Ont.) scored a natural hat trick to give her side a commanding 3-0 lead at the break.
Midfielder Shayla Lavecchia (Ottawa, Ont.) scored her sixth goal of the season past Excalibur keeper Alexandria Pelissero (Ridgeway, Ont.) in the second half to seal the victory at 4-0. Carleton goalkeeper Kate Shaughnessy (Ottawa, Ont.) earned her seventh shutout and ninth victory of the season with another standout performance.
Ottawa 5, RMC 0
The University of Ottawa (13-1-0) finished their home game schedule with a 5-0 win over the visiting Royal Military College and remain undefeated at home. The Gee Gees have now secured the East title with one more weekend of play to go.
All five Ottawa goals were scored by different players revealing the depth of the Gee-Gees squad. Val May (Ottawa, Ont.) opened the scoring with a header in the 23rd minute which was followed by a Katie Lugg (Ottawa, Ont.) finish from a cross in the 43rd to give the home side a 2-0 halftime lead.
The second half was a three-goal effort from the Gee-Gees as the Paladins could not stop the relentless Ottawa attack. Goals were scored by Megan Bell (Halifax, NS), Courtney Luscombe (Ottawa, Ont.) and Renee Jacques (Sudbury, Ont.) to put the game away and give the Gee Gees their thirteenth win on the season.
