OUA ANNOUNCES WOMEN'S SOCCER MAJOR AWARD WINNERS AND ALL-STARS
Ontario University Athletics (OUA) is pleased to announce the women's soccer major award winners and all-stars. York University claims three major awards, including one double award winner, after running away with the west division title this season. In the east, first place University of Ottawa is recognized with two major awards. Ryerson University also receives two major awards, following a breakout season for the Rams.
University of Ottawa Gee-Gee Amanda Robinson (Fredericton, NB) receives the Most Valuable Player in the east division. The second year defender has not only been steadfast in the Ottawa's back line, but has also proven to be an offensive threat, scoring seven goals in 14 games for the Gee-Gees. East Rookie of the Year is awarded to Andrea Raso (Toronto, Ont.), a striker at Ryerson. In her debut season, Raso scored five goals and has been an impact player for the Rams in their most successful season in program history. Ryerson coach Peyvand Mossavat receives Coach of the Year honours following a standout season in which the program finished in fifth place in the OUA east division, their highest finish in program history. Katarina Vulic (Oakville, Ont.) of Ottawa is recognized with the Community Service award for her achievements in soccer, academics and community involvement.
In the west division, Stefania Morra (Toronto, Ont.) of York claims the Most Valuable Player of the Year award in addition to Rookie of the Year award. As a striker for the Lions, Morra made a name for herself quickly, scoring 19 goals in 14 regular season games. Morra leads the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) and OUA in scoring and is looking to continue her streak in the final four this coming weekend. Her coach, Paul James, is recognized as the Coach of the Year after guiding York to a 13-1-0 season and a first place finish in the west, fifteen points clear of second place Wilfrid Laurier University. Laura Shoots (Brantford, Ont.) a fourth-year striker for McMaster University, is honoured with the Community Service award, following a successful season on the playing field, in the classroom and in the community.
