RAVEN'S REMAIN UNBEATEN, WHILE BROCK, GUELPH AND WINDSOR SIT TIED FOR FIRST IN WEST
The Carleton University Ravens men's basketball team improved their OUA record to 11-0 (3-0 against OUA East opponents) with an 86-70 victory over the University of Toronto Varsity Blues (8-3), in Toronto this past weekend.
Carleton was led by Stuart Turnbull (Kingston, ON) with a team high 27-point performance, veteran Aaron Doornekamp (Odessa, ON) added 15-points in the victory. Daron Leonard (London, ON) led the Ravens with six total rebounds, as Carleton out rebounded Toronto, 43 to 27 for the game.
Carleton led at the half, 33 to 25 and maintained their slim lead through out the second half putting the game away in the fourth quarter with a 34 to 26 advantage.
Brock 87, Guelph 79
The Brock University men's basketball team (7-4) knocked off the No.6 Guelph Gryphons (7-4) by the score of 87-79 in a battle for first place in the OUA West this past Saturday afternoon on the road.
With Brock leading by four early in the fourth quarter, the Gryphons Borko Popic would hit back-to-back three-pointers to give the Gryphons their last lead of the game at 67-65.
The Badgers would then go on to score 22 points in the final six minutes, shooting 50% from downtown (12-for-24) and 82.6% from the charity stripe (19-for-23) for the game.
The Badgers had four starters in double figures led by junior Mike Kemp (Niagara Falls, ON) who led all players with a game high 27 points going 4-for-6 from beyond the arc to lead the OUA with 39 three-pointers in 11 games. Senior Brad Rootes (Niagara Falls, ON) added 22 points and eight assists while seniors Scott Murray (Welland, ON) and Owen White (Port Hope, ON), finished with 14 and 11 points respectively.
The Badgers now sit in a three way tie for first place in the OUA West with Brock, Guelph and Windsor all having identical 7-4 records.
