BROCK ADVANCES TO CIS MEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER BRONZE MEDAL VICTORY
The Badgers got off to a slow start as Ottawa went on a 13-2 run over the first five minutes leading 17-8 after 10 minutes. In the second quarter, it was reversed as Brock went on a 12-3 run tying the game 20-20 on two Rohan Steen (Welland, Ont.) free throws with 1:51 left in the half. Brock took the lead at 1:33 on a Brad Rootes (Niagara Falls, Ont.) three-pointer, his first field goal of the game. Brock led 24-22 after 20 minutes.
In the third quarter, Brock came out shooting, knocking down five of their first seven field goals in the opening four minutes going on a 14-2 run to take a commanding 38-24 lead with 5:56 left in the quarter.
Ottawa would go on a late run in the final quarter bringing the game within five points 61-56 on a Donnie Gibson three-pointer with 2:59 left in regulation. The Badgers Rohan Steen would return the favour with 1:20 left draining a three-pointer from the corner to give Brock a 64-56 lead. The GeeGees offense would go cold from the field in final two minutes going 0-for-6.
Brock had three players in double figures led by senior Dusty Bianchin (Niagara Falls, Ont.) who recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. For his performance he was named the RCA Player of the Game. Also in double figures for the Badgers were junior Mike Kemp (Niagara Falls, Ont.) and senior Owen White (Port Hope, Ont.) with 12 points each.
Ottawa was led by OUA All-Star Josh Gibson-Bascombe who recorded 16 points and six assists. David Labentowicz and Dax Dessureault added 11 points each in the loss.
