BAKOVIC NAMED TO NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT TEAM
The Toronto product is one of just three Canadian Interuniversity Sport
(CIS) athletes to make the 13-player Canadian roster.
A 6-foot-8 business management student, Bakovic was a member of Canada's under-19 National Team that competed at the 2007 FIBA World Championship last summer in Serbia.
Bakovic was named a second team Ontario University Athletics (OUA ) All-Star and Ryerson's Male Athlete of the Year after finishing first in OUA scoring with 23.9 points per game in 2007-08. He was also second in CIS scoring and second in OUA rebounding. Bakovic was the only player in the OUA to be among the conference leaders in points, rebounds, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, steals and blocks.
"It's a great opportunity," said Chris O'Rourke, head coach of the DMNT. "We're excited to see what these talented young players can do during high level international competition. The purpose of the development team is to help prepare players for the Senior Team at some point, so this will be a great experience for both our athletes and the fans."
Tickets for the Canada vs. Italy games will be $10 per match for adults and available at the door, while admission for kids 12 and under will be $5. Children under the age of two will be admitted for free. Tip-off for the games will be at 7pm both nights.
