RAMS FALL TO PENN STATE IN EXHIBITION BASKETBALL
TORONTO, Ont. - Five players scored in double-digits as the Penn State Nittany Lions defeated the host Ryerson Rams 102-68 in exhibition basketball at Kerr Hall on Saturday night.
The Rams came out strong and led after the first quarter 23-20, but fell behind by halftime, trailing 57-40. The Nittany Lions continued to pull ahead in the second half, outscoring the Rams by 15 on route to their 34 point win.
Boris Bakovic (Toronto) led the Rams in the losing effort with a game-high 34 points and six rebounds. Bakovic was 13-of-22 from the floor. N'Kruma Hylton (Rexdale, Ont.) also had a strong game for Ryerson with eight points and six assists.
Leading the way for Penn State was Talor Battle (Albany, NY) who poured in 17 points. Danny Morrissey (Cleveland, Ohio) added 16 points, hitting a game-high five three-pointers.
Ryerson shot 43.5 per cent from the floor compared to Penn State's 59.7 per cent The Nittany Lions also shot an impressive 47.8 per cent from three-point range. The Rams were out-rebounded 28-20 and lost the turnover battle 24-11.
The Rams finished 2007-08 regular season in sixth place in the OUA East with a 7-15 record before advancing to the post-season for the first time since 2002-03. Penn State posted a 15-16 record last year in NCAA Division I action, including a win over Sweet 16 qualifier Michigan State.
The Rams are in action tomorrow (Sep. 1, 12pm) as they host the Iona College Gaels, another NCAA Division I school, at Kerr Hall.
