OUA M-SOCCER ROUNDUP: NO. 5 LIONS BLANK MARAUDERS
Andrea Lombardo (Toronto) booted a pair of first half goals for the Lions, who have seen their national ranking drop from No. 1 to No. 5 over the past month.
The Lions travel to Brock on Sunday while McMaster hosts Guelph.
GUELPH 3, BROCK 1
At Brock, the No. 7 Guelph Gryphons (5-1-1) continued their winning ways with a 3-1 victory over the Brock Badgers (1-5-1).
The Gryphons, who lead the West standings, and Badgers were scoreless until the second half, when Robert Murphy (Ottawa) struck for a pair of goals. Jurgen Koehler (Guelph, Ont.) increased Guelph's lead to 3-0 before Andrew Nimtsiv (Courtice, Ont.) answered for Brock in the dying moments of the game.
CARLETON 2, NIPISSING 1
At Carleton, the host Ravens (4-2-2) edged the Nipissing Lakers (2-4-2) by a 2-1 count.
Alex Vieira (Ottawa) opened the scoring in the 25th minute, giving the Ravens a 1-0. The score remained this way until the 83rd minute, when first-year striker Jonni Okai (Ottawa) provided Carleton an insurance marker.
Nipissing got on the scoreboard in the 88th minute when Shayn Karn (Callander, Ont.) broke the shutout bid.
Carleton hosts Laurentian on Sunday. Nipissing is idle until Oct. 9 when it hosts Queen's.
RYERSON 3, RMC 3
At Royal Military College, the Ryerson Rams (3-3-3) battled the winless RMC Paladins (0-5-1) to a 3-3 draw.
Adriano Mancini (Richmond Hill, Ont.) opened the scoring for the Rams in the seventh minute, but the lead was short lived as RMC responded in the 12th on a goal courtesy of Ryan Hogg (Halifax).
The Paladins took their first lead of the game in the 24th minute as Dylan Kirk (Courtenay, B.C.) booted one past the Ryerson goaltender. RMC could not take an advantage into halftime, however, as Nyema Cheljahn (Toronto) knotted the score at 2-2 in the 40th minute.
In the second half, Adam Masood (Mississauga, Ont.) put RMC ahead once again with a goal in the 52nd minute. The Rams spoiled any thoughts of RMC securing its first win of the season, however, as Janarthan Sadacharalingam (Scarborough, Ont.) scored the equalizer with just four minutes remaining in regulation.
RMC hosts No. 9 Toronto on Sunday, while Ryerson visits Queen's.
WESTERN 1, LAURIER 0
At Wilfrid Laurier, the Western Mustangs (3-3-1) picked up a 1-0 road victory over the host Golden Hawks (1-3-3).
The two teams remained scoreless until the 84th minute, when Mark Pocrnic (London, Ont.) scored the game-winning goal for Western.
Fourth-year goaltender Kosta Viglatzis (Toronto) earned the shutout victory.
Western visits Waterloo on Sunday, while Laurier hosts Windsor.
WINDSOR 2, WATERLOO 0
At Waterloo, the charging Windsor Lancers (4-1-2) took care of business with a 2-0 win over the Warriors (3-2-2).
Mike Watson (Belle River, Ont.) put Windsor in the lead for good in the 40th minute. The score remained 1-0 for most of the game until Arlo Hemkes (Arnhem, Netherlands) added another for the Lancers in the 90th minute.
Dan Mendonca (London, Ont.) earned the shutout win in goal.
QUEEN'S VS. TRENT
At Trent, the match between the Queen's Gaels (4-1-2) and Trent Excalibur (2-6-1) was suspended due to inclement weather.
Queen's was leading Trent 3-0 when the match was ended. It will be replayed at a yet to be determined time.
