OUA W-HOCKEY ROUNDUP: LIONS DOMINATE NO. 7 GAELS
The Lions started off the game with real jump. Only 30 seconds into the game, Mandy Cole (Peterborough, Ont.) scored a goal with an assist from Michelle Daniels (Scarborough, Ont.).
The Gaels finally tied the score up 13 minutes into the first period, but York responded five minutes later when Kristie Wilson (Hamilton, Ont.) scored a power play goal with passes from Autumn Mills (London, Ont.) and Danielle Beach (Port Perry, Ont.).
A slew of penalties were taken by both teams in the second period, but neither was able to capitalize on the ensuing power plays.
Both teams continued the tough battle in the third but eventually, with only seven minutes left, Beach put a shot past the Queen's netminder. In the final minute of the game the Gaels pulled their goalie in an effort to close the gap but team captain Courtney Unruh (Fort St. John, B.C.) put the puck in the empty net, after a feed from Mills to secure the win.
York goaltender Sydney McMurter (Orillia, Ont.) came away with a spectacular 47-save game.

At Guelph, the Windsor Lancers (4-6) defeated the No. 9 Gryphons (5-2) by a 3-2 score in dramatic fashion on Friday night.

In the first period, Guelph's Samantha Ryder (Vancouver) took a pass from the left boards and one-timed a shot past Windsor netminder Jamie Tessier (Copper Cliff, Ont.) to give Guelph a 1-0 lead.

Before the period came to its conclusion the Lancers were able to get on the board as Manon Davis (Sudbury, Ont.) scored on a wrap-around that saw the puck trickle in.
With just under thirteen minutes left in the game, the Lancers were able to tie the game up. A nice slapper from the point by captain Kelly Meincke (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) was redirected from a beautiful tip by third year forward Candace Rapchak (Stoney Point, Ont.) to even the score at 2-2.
Neither team was able to score throughout the remainder of regulation or overtime to send the game into a shootout.
