NO. 10 LIONS EDGE WARRIORS IN WOMEN'S HOCKEY
TORONTO - The No. 10 nationally-ranked York Lions (7-3-0) edged the Waterloo Warriors (3-5-1) by a 2-1 count in women's hockey on Tuesday night at Canlan Ice Sports Arena.
Waterloo grabbed an early 1-0 lead as Randi Lynn Wilson (Dublin, Ont.) scored her second of the season on a set-up by Emma McMillian (Hastings, Ont.).
But York would respond minutes later on the power play, as Waterloo's Julia Endicott (Toronto) was called for roughing. Mandy Cole (Peterborough, Ont.) scored her seventh of the season to tie the score at one, on helpers from Jennifer Petkovics (Mississauga, Ont.) and Karen Wiltshire (Bowmanville, Ont.).
Courtney Unruh scored the game-winner for the Lions in the second period on an unassisted marker, her sixth goal of the season.
York goalie Sydney Brown (Kincardine, Ont.) stopped 18 of 19 shots in the win. Kahla Stern (Paris, Ont.) took the loss for Waterloo, making 26 saves.
