OUA W-HOCKEY ROUNDUP: KNOX SECONDS AWAY FROM TYING CIS RECORDS
Laurier continues their undefeated season with a 22-0-0 record. Guelph falls to 13-8-3 with the loss.
In a game that featured the top two teams in goals for in the CIS (Guelph with 85, Laurier with 80) there would be no scoring until the third period. Kate Psota (Burlington, Ont.) opened the scoring 5:11 into the final period. Just over a minute left in the game Knox would get an assist on an Andrea Ironside (Collingwood, Ont.) empty net goal to give the Golden Hawks a 2-0 lead. However, Jessica Zerafa (Mississauga, Ont.) would play the role of spoiler scoring with just four seconds left on the clock to break Knox's shutout.
Andrea Ironside's empty net goal now ties her for 11th in the OUA in points with 24.
Guelph's Danielle Skoufranis (Thornhill, Ont.) stopped 24 of 25 shots in the losing cause.
WINDSOR 4, YORK 1
At Windsor, the Lancers (10-13-0) upset the No. 7 York Lions (15-7-1) by a 4-1 score on Sunday.
The Lancers jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Jodilyn Brown opened the scoring in the first period, while teammates Candace Rapchak and Stephanie Hebert contributed second period markers.
The Lions finally got on the board in the later stages in the second period as Autumn Mills scored her eighth of the OUA season.
The score remained 3-1 into the final minutes of regulation when Manon Davis scored an empty netter for the Lancers.
QUEEN'S 5, UOIT 2
At Queen's, the No. 9 Queen's Gaels (16-5-2) downed the UOIT Ridgebacks 5-2 on Sunday.
Kristin Smith and Morgan McHaffie scored two goals each for the Gaels, while Megan McNutt added a single marker. Elizabeth Kench contributed three assists for Queen's.
Rikki Palmateer and Jill Morillo scored for UOIT. The Ridgebacks are now 4-15-4.
TORONTO 4, WESTERN 3, SO
At Western, Karolina Urban scored the shootout winner as the Toronto Varsity Blues (12-9-2) edged the Mustangs 4-3 on Sunday.
Urban also scored in regulation for the Varsity Blues. Also scoring for Toronto were Stacey Oue and Amanda Fawns.
Replying for the Mustangs were Brittany Buck, Katie Dillon and Jamie Carver. Western's record is now 9-11-4.
LAURIER 3, BROCK 0
At Brock, Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawk goaltender Liz Knox made 25 saves in a 3-0 shutout victory over the Brock Badgers (9-12-3) on Saturday.
Brittany Crago, Vanessa Schabkar and Kaley Powers all scored for the Golden Hawks.
Devon Skeats led all Laurier players with two assists.
GUELPH 4, WATERLOO 2
At Guelph, the Gryphons doubled up the Waterloo Warriors 4-2 on Saturday.
Four different Gryphons scored against Waterloo, including Jenna Lanzarotta, Dayna Kanis, Katherine Van Vlack and Jessica Zerafa. Guelph's Tamara Bell earned two assists.
Scoring for the Warriors were Kelly MacLean and Randi Lynn Wilson. The Warriors dropped to 6-14-3.
WINDSOR 3, TORONTO 1
At Windsor, after falling behind 1-0, the Lancers rallied for a 3-1 win over the visiting Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday.
Manon Davis, Candace Rapchak and Julie Hamilton all scored for the Lancers. Davis led all Windsor players with two points.
Brenley Jorgensen scored Toronto's lone goal, her 13th of the season.
YORK 2, WESTERN 1
At Western, the No. 7 York Lions edged the Mustangs 2-1 on Saturday.
The Lions built a 2-0 lead in the second period on goals by Kristie Wilson and Chloe Milano.
The Mustangs cut their deficit in half late in the third period on Ellie Seedhouse 15th goal of the season. But it was as close as Western would get to erasing its deficit.
QUEEN'S 4, UOIT 3, OT
At Queen's, Michelle Hunt scored the overtime winner to lift the Gaels over the UOIT Ridgebacks 4-3 on Saturday.
Three different players scored for Queen's in regulation time, including Elizabeth Kench, Morgan McHaffie and Kelsey Thomson.
Jill Morillo scored a pair of goals for the Ridgebacks in a losing effort. Sarah Worthington also contributed a goal for UOIT.
BROCK 5, WATERLOO 2
At Brock, the Badgers down the Waterloo Warriors 5-2 on Friday.
Five different Badgers scored, including Shannon McLeod, Kelly Walker, Emily Hooper, Karolyn McIlmoyle and Rachel Piotrowski. McIlmoyle led all players with a three-point effort.
Scoring for the Warriors were Kelly MacLean and Randi Lynn Wilson.
