WINDSOR, Ont. - Seven Lancers got their name on the game sheet as the Lancer men's hockey team forced game three in the OUA west semi-finals with a 3-1 win over the No. 8 Western Mustangs on Saturday night at South Windsor Arena.
The series is now tied at one game apiece, with the third and deciding game being played Sunday night at Thompson Arena in London at 7:00pm. The game can be seen live on Mustangs TV.
In a penalty free first period, the Lancers dominated the play for a majority of the period but were unable to capitalize on a several opportunities in front of the Western net. Windsor's defense neutralized the Mustangs preventing the visitors from having any formidable scoring opportunities in the period.
Blake Blondeel put the Lancers on the board at 2:15 of the middle frame with his first goal of the post season. The Lancers maintained their lead throughout the period as they continued their strong defensive play in the Windsor zone.
With less than a minute remaining in the period, Saverio Posa accepted a pass from Kenny Brandford and captain Drew Palmer to give Windsor a 2-0 lead heading into the final frame.
In the third, the Lancer defence continued to control Western's forwards, with Parker Van Buskirk in particular showing great strength, only allowing one goal three minutes into a 4:00 Mustangs power play.

Carleton 1 @ Queen's 2
KINGSTON, Ont. (February 28, 2014) – The Queen's Gaels have forced a third and deciding game Sunday in Ottawa after beating the No. 5 Carleton Ravens 2-1 on Saturday night at the Memorial Centre in Kingston.
The loss is the first for Carleton since November 30 when the Warriors beat them 6-2. The Ravens had won 16 straight games before tonight.
The first powerplay of the game went to Carleton in the game but Queen's kept them to the outside and sacrificed their bodies blocking multiple point shots. The Gaels then had a few chances of their own including a great chance from Tyler Moore (Winnipeg) from the slot but Ravens netminder Francis Dupuis covered up.
The two teams headed to their dressing rooms all tied at 0-0 after the first period. Carleton led in shots 10-7.
In the second period the Gaels opened up with just over a minute remaining on a powerplay. Chris Van Laren (Kingston, Ont.) fired a point shot that beat Dupuis for his third goal of the playoffs with Queen's captain Corey Bureau (Amherstview, Ont.) picking up the lone assist.
After the Gaels killed off a Van Laren penalty Queen's had three straight powerplays of their own. The Gaels could not add to their lead however and took a 1-0 advantage into the third period.
In the third the Ravens nearly tied the game up as the puck bounced off the end boards and out to the other side of the net. Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) managed to sprawl across to the other side of the crease to deny the Ravens forward an easy wrap-around goal.
After killing off a late penalty Queen's held off the Ravens attack with their net empty. Andrew Wiebe (Thunder Bay, Ont.) scored an empty netter to seal the win for Queen's.
Bailie had his shutout bid broken up with only 16 seconds remaining but finished with 35 saves on 36 shots in the win.
Queen's will now travel to Ottawa on SRunday to meet the Ravens in the third and final game of the series. Puck drop is set for 7pm.

Ryerson 1 @ Lakehead 5
The Lakehead Thunderwolves downed the Ryerson Rams 5-1 in front of 2838 fans at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay on Friday night to sweep the Rams two games to none in the OUA West Division semi-finals.
Lakehead came out very strong in the opening minutes of the game after a dominating 7-0 victory over the Rams in the first game of the series on Wednesday night in Toronto.
Andrew Wilkins put the Thunderwolves on the board first when he tipped a Cody Alcock shot from the point past Rams’ goaltender Troy Passingham, giving Lakehead an early 1-0 lead.
The Wolves were all over the Rams in the first period and barely missed some great by Keith Grondin and Mike Hammond.
Mike Quesnele extended the Thunderwolves lead to 2-0 midway through the first when he finished off a nice pass from Cody Alcock who brought the puck in, circled the net and found a streaking Quesnele.
Jamie Wise cut Lakehead’s lead in half at 6:57 of the second period when he deflected a point shot up high and past Jeff Bosch on the power-play.
The Wolves quickly restored their two-goal lead when Cody Alcock walked in alone and fired the puck short side past Passingham.
Bosch was shaken up when a Ryerson player crashed the net midway through the middle frame, and had to be replaced by freshman Justin McDonald in the Lakehead goal.
Lakehead added to its lead shortly after when Mike Quesnele hammered a wrister up and over Passingham while the Wolves were on the power play, to make it 4-1 for Lakehead.
The Wolves continued their dominant play in the third period, controlling puck possession and playing a physical brand of playoff-style hockey.
Jake Carrick added a third period marker to seal the 5-1 win.
Lakehead will now advance to the West Division finals against the winner of the Western Ontario-Windsor series, which Western Ontario currently leads one game to nothing.
Should the Wolves meet Western Ontario in the finals, Lakehead will only host game #1 of the best-of-three series on Wednesday night at the Fort William Gardens. Game #2 would be played in London, as would game #3 if necessary.
If Windsor should advance to the finals, game #1 will take place in Windsor on Wednesday night, and then Lakehead would host game #2 on Friday, and if necessary, game #3 on Saturday night.
