MEN'S HOCKEY ROUNDUP: Lancers and Patriotes split double header
Ottawa 2 @ York 0
The York University Lions men's hockey team was defeated by a score of 2-0 by the visiting Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday night (Nov. 15) in a goaltending duel at Canlan Ice Sports.
Ottawa goaltender Warren Shymko (Calder, Sask.) stopped all 29 shots he faced while his counterpart, Andrew Perugini (King City, Ont.) allowed just one goal on 25 shots in the contest.
The Lions dominated the first period of the game despite drawing the only two penalties of the frame, firing 14 shots on net compared to just seven for the Gee-Gees. But Shymko turned away everything he faced to preserve the shutout, and the two teams entered the first intermission scoreless.
Momentum swung toward the Gee-Gees in the second period as Ottawa controlled the puck for large stretches of time. York's defence stood tall as the Gee-Gees were only able to fire nine shots at Perugini, but the Lions were not able to generate much offence themselves. They had the best chance to break the deadlock late in the frame when an Ottawa defender bobbled the puck right in front of the net, but he and Shymko kept it out.
As time was winding down in the second, Mathieu Ouellette (Clarence Creek, Ont.) finally opened the scoring at 18:58 to give the Gee-Gees a 1-0 lead they carried into the second break. Jean-Sebastien Fournier (Sainte-Claire, Que.) and Guillaume Donovan (Gatineau, Que.) were credited with the assists.
The third period was a more even affair as the play stayed mostly bottled up in the neutral zone, with each team getting few offensive opportunities. The Lions pulled Perugini early to try and get the equalizer, and Ottawa capitalized on the empty net with the insurance marker from Stephen Blunden (Ottawa) at 18:57.
The loss drops the Lions to 6-5-0 on the year, while the Gee-Gees extended their winning streak to five games to match the Lions' record.

UOIT 2 @ Western 7
LONDON, Ont. – Matt Clarke, Luke Karaim and Adam Stoykewych scored in the final frame while Daniel Erlich dished out four assists to help the Mustangs men's hockey team to an impressive 7-2 win over the UOIT Ridgebacks on Friday night at Thompson Arena.
The blowout win came after two straight losses last weekend to Ottawa and McGill. After the game head coach Clarke Singer noted he was happy with the team's bounce-back effort.
"We talked about a lot of things that we had to improve on after last weekend and I thought we made some improvements in some areas," said Singer. "We let them back in the game there late in the second but I'm glad to see our guys push back there in the third; I asked them to do that."
Matt Marantz capitalized on a lucky bounce for the Mustangs' first goal of the night as the sophomore banked the puck in off the back of UOIT goaltender Jacob Rattie from behind the net.
He wouldn't have much of a chance on Western's second goal of the period as Zach Harnden launched a howitzer over his shoulder with 15 seconds left. With the Mustangs buzzing around the Ridgebacks' net for much of the last five minutes, Harnden kept what appeared to be a dead play going with a steal in front of the net before circling back around and finishing it off with a pass from Steve Reese.
The Mustangs carried their momentum from the first into the second, notching two goals in the first ten minutes to go up by four. Stefan Salituro scored on the power play just under four minutes into the period before Matt Clarke pounced on a rebound at 13:36.
But penalty trouble from the Mustangs in the latter half of the second allowed the Ridgebacks to jump back in the game. UOIT's Mitch Bennett got the Ridgebacks on the board with a shot through a screen on a 5-on-3 before Jake Logan cut the deficit with a power play goal of his own less than a minute later, making it 4-2.
"You can't let teams back in the game," Singer said. "It was over—the game was over—we were up by four [in the second] and all of a sudden we let them back in and anything can happen then.
We talked about it and it's something that we have to improve on. I think the guys are aware of it, we've just got to actually make sure it happens on the ice."
To top off the Mustangs' already tough second period, rookie defenseman Alex Micalef was forced to leave the game after suffering a laceration to his wrist during a scrum in the corner. After the game, Singer was still unsure about the damage but was optimistic about getting Micalef back soon.
"Just a deep cut—I haven't gotten the full report yet but fortunately I don't think it's ligament or tendon damage," Singer said. "It's just going to be a bunch of stitches but he'll be back sooner than later I think."
Micalef may not have been back for the third period but the Mustangs' offense clearly was as Clarke potted his second of the game 2:16 into the final frame. The goal came on a delayed penalty and was the result of a nifty pass from Matt Marantz, whose assist was his second of the night and marked his third point of the game.
Luke Karaim added the extra insurance that the Mustangs were looking for with just under nine minutes left in the frame, potting his second goal of the season on a breakaway. UOIT's second backstop Colin Dzijacky did his best to keep the deficit at four, absolutely robbing Erlich with just over seven minutes left, but Adam Stoykewych would put the game out of reach with his third goal of the season a minute later.
Although Erlich may not have recorded a goal, the sophomore forward's four assists on the night now launch him into a tie for first on the OUA scoring leaderboard with 20 points. He has been spectacular for Western this season, posting a point in every regulation contest to give him four goals and 16 assists in just nine games.
Josh Unice had a great bounce-back effort in net for the Mustangs, posting 26 saves for his fourth win of the season. Singer was quick to credit the veteran net-minder for his effort after the game.
"He gave us another solid effort as he usually does," Singer said. "To Josh's credit we haven't given him a lot of help this year in a number of areas and he's not been the problem at all through some of the losses. I thought we were better in front of him tonight."

McGill 4 @ Brock 3 (SO)
ST CATHARINES, Ont. – The Brock University men's hockey team (5-4-2 OUA) fell 4-3 in a shootout against the 4th ranked McGill Redmen (8-1-1 OUA) on Friday evening at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
The Badgers got the scoring started five minutes into the first period on a power play goal scored by Kaine Geldart with Matt Abercrombie drawing the lone assist on the goal.
Geldart gave Brock a 2-0 lead on his second power play goal of the game just more than a minute after his first. Kevin Christmas and Andrew Radjenovic set up Geldart on the goal.
The second period was all McGill on the score sheet as Samuel Carrier, Carl Gelinas and Marc-Olivier Vachon all added goals to take a 3-2 lead heading into the third period.
The Badgers showed no signs of giving up as they battled back in the third period to tie the game on Jordan Gignac's second goal of the season. Matt Stajan and C.J. Dickson came through with the assists to send the game into overtime tied at 3.
The Redmen came out firing in the overtime period outshooting Brock 7-0 in the frame but could not beat Dalton McGrath between the pipes for the Badgers sending the game into a shootout.
Radjenovic got Brock started with a goal in the shootout but that was all they could muster up as McGill made good with their first two attempts to take the 4-3 shootout win.
McGill's Andrew Flemming allowed three goals on 20 shots to pick up the win. McGrath was solid in goal for the Badgers registering 33 saves to help his team pick up a big point against one of the top teams in the CIS. McGrath also became the fastest goalie in school history to record 1,000 career saves. In 33 career regular season games, he has now recorded 1,026 saves.

UQTR 6 @ Windsor 1
The No. 7 Lancer men's hockey team was handed their first loss since the opening game of the 2013-14 season Friday night at South Windsor Arena. The Lancers fell 6-1 to the visiting UQTR Patriotes in a penalty filled contest.
The first period was evenly matched, and despite numerous Windsor penalties, the score remained tied at zero as Lancer goaltender Parker Van Buskirk was stellar in net holding off two 5-3 opportunities for the Patriotes.
UQTR managed to get on the board at 15:31 of the opening period with a goal from Thomas Martin. Martin would eventually complete a hat-trick over the next two periods.
Windsor's Kenny Bradford scored a nice goal on the power play early in the second period to tie the game. The game would only remain tied for a short time as UQTR pulled ahead just thirty seconds later.
From there the teams spent most of their time in the penalty box as the game racked up 114 minutes in penalties by the final buzzer.
Van Buskirk finished the game with 40 saves for the Blue & Gold.

Concordia 3 @ Lakehead 4 (SO)
The Lakehead Thunderwolves edged the Concordia Stingers 4-3 in a shootout on teddy bear toss night at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay in front of 3,011 fans on Friday.
Concordia got on the board first when forward Kieran O’Neil banged in his own rebound to give the Stingers the early 1-0 lead.
Chris de la Lande put home a loose puck at 7:38 of the opening frame to tie the game at 1-1 and send the teddy bears flying from the stands and onto the ice. The assists on the goal were credited to Matt Kaarela and Paul Thompson.
The Thunderwolves took a 2-1 lead less than a minute later when Cody Alcock scored off a beautiful feed from Andrew Wilkins. The other assist went to Trevor Gamache.
The second period was scoreless but didn’t lack for action as both sides had plenty off great chances, including a Mike Hammond laser that rang off the cross-bar. Justin McDonald for Lakehead and Antoine Marchand for Concordia each made some big saves for their respective teams.
Both teams continued to trade chances in a tense third period, highlighted by a huge pad save by McDonald that kept the Wolves in front.
The lead didn’t last and Concordia tied it up halfway through the third when forward Ben Dubois pounced on his own rebound and muscled the puck past McDonald, knotting the score at 2-2.
Alcock restored Lakehead’s lead with his second goal of the game on a beautiful individual effort when he blew past a Concordia defender and swooped in and backhanded the puck past Marchand. The assists were credited to Mitch Fillman and Gamache.
The Stingers proved to be resilient and evened it up at 3-3 with three minutes left in the game on a point shot by Taylor Lambke that made its way through traffic and past McDonald.
Overtime solved nothing and the game proceeded to a shootout.
On the first five attempts, none of the three Stingers' shooters could beat McDonald, and Jake Carrick and Alcock were stymied by Marchand. Mike Hammond then netted the shootout winner to give the Wolves a 4-3 victory.

Laurentian 1 @ Waterloo 6
It may have been dubbed Think Pink night, but the Waterloo Warriors' power play had the Laurentian Voyageurs seeing red.
The Warriors got goals from six different players – four on the man advantage – as Waterloo cruised to a 6-1 victory over Laurentian Friday night at the Columbia Icefield Arena in Waterloo.
Kain Allicock (Markham) led the way for the hosts with a goal and two assists, while Jeff Einhorn (Red Deer) and Chris Chappell (Pickering) each added two points. It was a victory on and off the ice for the Warriors, as nine players and staff members had their heads shaved as part of the Warriors' Think Pink campaign during the first intermission. All told, the team contributed over $3,000 to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
Mike Morrison (Hamilton) was solid when tested in the Warriors net, making 22 saves for the victory. Charlie Millen hung tough in Laurentian's goal, making several remarkable saves while under siege early in the game. Millen got a mercy pulling after making 31 saves through 35 minutes, taking the loss.
The Warriors controlled play from the drop of the puck, but Millen's acrobatics held the game scoreless into the second half of the opening period. But After falling down two men for only nine seconds, Justin Larson (Buckhorn) blasted a one-timer to the top shelf to open the scoring. A quick Allicock wrister off of a faceoff win made it 2-0 only 49 seconds later, and Chappell scored a carbon copy of Larson's power play marker to make the score 3-0 after twenty minutes.
The Warriors kept the heat on and forced the Voyageurs into more penalty trouble in the second period. Brett Mackie (Whitby) knocked in a rebound goal on the man advantage, and Riley Sonnenburg (Cambridge)'s glove side laser past a screen finally chased Millen. Luke Lynes (Washington) finished off the Warriors scoring in the last minute of the second period when he beat new goaltender Alex Laino through the five-hole to make it 6-0 Waterloo.
The third period proved to be anti-climactic, as the Warriors aimed to take care of business in their own end of the rink. The only question left unanswered was if Morrison would earn his first career shutout, but a perfect far post wrister from Dylan Fitze ruined that with less than four minutes to play.

Nipissing 2 @ Laurier 6
The Lakers opened the scoring with a goal from Brogan Bailey of Lunenburg, N.S., off of a feed from Dane Horvat of Milton, Ont. Despite trailing midway through the first period, the Hawks answered in the dying seconds of the period with a marker from Greg Cerilli of Barrie, Ont.
Opening the second frame with momentum on their side, the Golden Hawks netted two goals in the early minutes of the period from Zach Woolford of Rockwood, Ont. and Tyler Stothers of Oakville, Ont.
The Lakers would pull within one, off a power play goal from Andrew Marcoux of Rockwood, Ont. but it wouldn't be enough as Laurier would go on to score three unanswered goals to down the Lakers in a 6-2 final.
The Hawks offensive arsenal was led by team point leader Derek Schoenmakers of Kitchener, Ont., Woolford and defenceman Matt Brown of Calgary, who all had three points in the contest. Stothers also had a multi-point night, recording a goal and an assist.
Shayne Campbell of Cambridge, Ont., got the call for the Hawks, turning aside 22 shots to earn the Hawks their second win of the season. Kirk Rafuse of Kentville, N.S., and John Chartrand of Barrie, Ont., shared the crease in a losing effort.

GUELPH, Ont. (November 15, 2013) – The Guelph Gryphon men's hockey team lost to the Queen's Gaels in overtime Friday night with a final score of 4-3 at the Gryphon Centre. The Gryphons drop to 5-5-1 while the Gaels move to 6-0-4.
The Gryphons started out strong, keeping possession of the puck and using their speed to box out the Golden Gaels at every scoring opportunity. Queen's had a couple of shots on the scrums that they set up in front of the net, but it would be the Gryphons who would get on the board first with a breakaway goal by Brett Appio to make it 1-0 early on in the first period, with Jordan Mock and Michael Hasson on the assist.
The Gaels were forcing turnovers as the period progressed and playing more aggressively to break through the Gryphon defense. Queen's got the first power play of the game after Kyle Neuber (Sarnia, Ont.) was called for interference at 13:28. The Gaels would tie it up with a hard shot from the blue line by Patrick McEachen (Stouffville, Ont.), with Joey Derochie (Sudbury, Ont.) and Kelly Jackson (Scarborough, Ont.) on the assists to make it 1-1.
The second period started with back and forth action, but Guelph was able to up the intensity quickly with more shots on goal than the Gaels in the second period. The Gryphons got their first power play after Corey Bureau (Amherstview, Ont.) was called for tripping at 4:54. The Gryphons set up a scoring opportunity in the last twenty seconds of the power play, with Nicklas Huard passing across the ice to Nicholas Trecapelli who would slap the puck in behind the goalie to make it 2-1 for the Gryphons, with Kenneth Peroff also on the assist.
As the second period moved along, the shots on goal started to even up.Harrison Hendrix (Calgary, AB.) had a solid screen set up in front of Gryphon goalie, Andrew Loverock that allowed Hendrix to score a backhanded goal to make it 2-2 for the Gaels, with Patrick Downe (New Maryland, N.B.) and Chris Van Laren (Kingston, Ont.) on the assists.
Queen's dominated possession for the first half of the third period, and were quick through the neutral zone, charging the net. Despite their speed, they were still having a hard time beating the Gryphon defensemen. Queen's player, Braeden Corbeth (Oakville, Ont.) had a breakaway early on in the third period, charging through the neutral zone, but Peroff would use his speed and dive in front of the puck to stop Corbeth from taking a shot. However, Queen's would make up for it at 12:03 with a goal from Tyler Moore (Winnipeg, Man.) to make it 3-2 for the Gaels, with Stephane Chabot (Rockland, Ont.) and Corbeth on the assists.
The Gryphons took possession of the puck quickly after the Gaels goal and were determined to tie up the game. It was Jordan Mock who tied it up 3-3 for the Gryphons, with Robert De Fulviisand Mike Hasson on the assists. The game would remain tied, despite efforts from both teams, taking them into overtime.
It would be a breakaway goal by Queen's player, Corey Bureau to win the game 4-3 in overtime for the Gaels, with Chris Van Laren on the assist.
The shots on goal were 28-29 in favour of the Golden Gaels.

RMC 1 @ Ryerson 7
TORONTO – Playing their first game in 15 days, the Ryerson Rams showed very few signs of rust as they hammered the Royal Military College (RMC) Paladins 7-1 on Friday night at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
The Rams dominated throughout, firing 59 shots on RMC goaltender Paul Dorsey.
Ryerson’s Robert Visca (Everett, Ont.) opened the scoring 5:31 into the first period. First-year forward Domenic Alberga (Maple, Ont.) continued his hot start scoring on the power play midway through the opening frame before adding a shorthanded marker in the final minute.
Kent McPherson (Stratford, Ont.) recorded a shorthanded goal as the Rams led 4-0 after 40 minutes. Dustin Alcock (Hamilton, Ont.), with two, and Jason McDonough (Toronto) added third period goals.
“I think there was a little bit of rust,” said assistant coach John Duco. “Our passing game wasn’t the best and we made a few mistakes we addressed in between periods that we were able to improve on throughout the night.”
With the win, the Rams improve to 6-4-0 and stay with the pack in the competitive OUA West Division. Ryerson is in a four-way tie for fourth place and are four points out of first place and just one point out of the ninth spot.
“It was very crucial that we came back and got the two points tonight and got some momentum going,” said Duco. “It’s a log jam in the standings and we can’t afford to give away any points.”
Eric Louis-Seize spoiled Adam Courchaine’s (Kanata, Ont.) shutout bid, scoring on the power play for the Paladins with just under five minutes to go in regulation. Courchaine made 16 saves for his fourth victory of the season.
Ryerson was 2-for-5 on the power play, while RMC went 1-for-4 with the man advantage.
Visca was injured after setting up McDonough’s third period goal and was taken off the ice on a stretcher. The injury was not serious but he was taken to the hospital after the game as a cautionary measure.

With the win, the Blues improve to 7-4-0 and remain tied with Lakehead for second place in the OUA West division. The Ravens drop to 6-3-1 and move into fourth in the East.
Sophomore defenceman Lane Werbowski was the OT hero, netting the game-winner 1:22 into the extra frame. The Winnipeg native received a cross-ice pass from team captain Blake Boddy and wired the puck into the bottom right corner of the net.
Doyle opened the scoring just 32 seconds into the game as he received a breakout pass from linemate Tyler von Engelbrechten and finished off a 2-on-1 with a beautiful shot over Carleton netminder Ryan Dube's glove. The Blues held onto the 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Carleton 5 @ Ryerson 9
TORONTO - There’s something special that happens when Daniel Lombardi (Richmond Hill, Ont.) takes the ice at the Mattamy Athletic Centre at the Gardens against the Carleton Ravens.
On Dec. 1, 2012, Lombardi scored the overtime winner against Carleton to give Ryerson a 3-2 victory heading into the holidays.
Saturday afternoon was much the same dramatics, just a lot more goals.
A four-goal performance by Lombardi was the difference as Ryerson defeated Carleton heavily, 9-5. Lombardi also added two assists and finished with six points.
“That is (a career high), and I’ve never had a hat-trick either in a game so it was something special and I played in the OHL for five years and never had a hat-trick so it’s something to remember,” said Lombardi, who entered the game with six points which has since doubled.
Coming off a seven-goal performance the night before, Ryerson was still feeling it offensively, scoring just 1:17 into the match with Victor Terreri (Mississauga, Ont.) scoring his third of the season.
Peter Hermenegildo (Thornhill, Ont.) scored seven minutes later with his fifth of the season. Hermenegildo added two assists on the night and his 13 points has him in third place in the CIS in defenceman scoring. After Lombardi got his first of the evening on the powerplay, it was Carleton who dominated the play.
Scoring with less than a second left in the first period off a Matthew Stanisz shot from the point, Joe Pleckaitis tipped it in and Carleton had the momentum going into the intermission.
Two straight goals within two minutes by Carleton starting just five minutes into the second period had Ryerson scrambling and forcing Rams assistant coach Johnny Duco to call a timeout.
“We just wanted to settle everyone down and remind them of the fact that we needed to be solid defensively and we have enough skill that the offence will take care of itself if we take care of our own end,” said Duco.
The timeout seemed to work as Lombardi scored his second of the afternoon a few minutes later on the powerplay. After a Carleton goal to even the score at four, it was goals galore with Ryerson scoring three unanswered and four total in the final frame.
With 16 goals scored in two games after not playing for two weeks and sitting in second in the CIS with 4.88 goals per game, what is it with the offence for the Rams?
“I just think our lines are meshing together, with have good chemistry with some of the guys and some of the lines that we’ve put together so hopefully we can continue that throughout the season,” said Lombardi.
Adam Courchaine (Kanata, Ont.) recorded his fifth win of the season making 35 saves. Matthew Dopud started the game for Carleton and suffered the loss. Dopud was pulled after the third Ryerson goal in favour of backup Ryan Dube but returned to the game after Ryerson’s sixth goal.

UOIT 2 @ Guelph 8
GUELPH, Ont. (November 16, 2013) – The Guelph Gryphon men's hockey team defeated the UOIT Ridgebacks with a final score of 8-2 at the Gryphon Centre on Saturday afternoon. The Gryphons are now 6-5-1 while the Ridgebacks drop to 3-7-1.
The Gryphons were celebrating Hockey Day in Gryphonville and were honouring the 93-94 OUAA men's hockey champions.
Kyle Neuber had an impressive game scoring a hat trick against the Ridgebacks. Keith Hamilton also had an impressive game saving a total of 22 shots, only letting two past him.
The first period started out slow, with the Ridgebacks taking advantage of Gryphon turnovers. The Gryphons were quick to up the intensity however, quickly racking up scores on goal. Guelph would get the first power play of the game after a call on UOIT player Matt Pasztor (Langton, Ont.) for hooking at 5:03, which would set the tone for the rest of the period. That power play quickly turned into a two man advantage for Guelph however when another UOIT player, Jake Logan (Napanee, Ont.), was called for cross checking at 6:41. The Gryphons were quick to set up a scoring opportunity, with Kyle Neuber eventually slapping one in to make it 1-0 after a rebound off of the goalie's pads, with Kenneth Peroff and Teal Burns on the assists. Neuber would score again in the same way, but the play happened after the whistle was blown, which would keep it at 1-0 for the Gryphons. Neuber would make up for it shortly after, scoring another one from inside the crease at 8:13 to make it 2-0, with Michael Hasson on the assist.
The Gryphons would score again at 18:14 with a pass from Michael Charbonneau across the ice to Nicholas Trecapelli who put the puck right into the top corner to make it 3-0 for the Gryphons. Less than 20 seconds later the Gryphons put another point on the board after a goal by Teal Burns to make it 4-0 at 18:30, with Nicklas Huard and Hasson on the assists.
The second period started off strong for the Gryphons, with Cale Jefferies attempting a backhanded shot from inside the crease, but was stopped by the Ridgeback goalie Jesse Raymond (Woodstock, Ont.) who entered the game late in the first period to replace Colin Dzijacky (Thunder Bay, Ont.). The period was very back and forth, but the Gryphons took advantage of their possessions setting up ample scoring opportunities. The Gryphons made it 5-0 at 8:35 with a pass from Kyle Neuber to Nicklas Huard as they were moving through the neutral zone, which had had Huard taking it up through the crease to score through the bottom corner, with Daniel Broussard also on the assist.
A fight erupted as the second period ended with penalties being handed out to both teams. Gryphon player Mike Hasson was called for crosschecking, and his teammate Brett Appio was called for roughing. Ridgeback player Jason Shaw (Belleville, Ont.) was also called for roughing, which put the Ridgebacks on a power play heading into the third period.
The Ridgebacks game improved as the third period started, with them taking control of the puck. They would score at 5:31 as Jordan Ramsey (Pickering, Ont.) shot the puck in from just outside the crease to make it 5-1 for the Gryphons, with Mike Whiteside (Ajax, Ont.) and Cameron Yuill (Wellington, Ont.) on the assists. The Gryphons responded after UOIT player Dominik Crnogorac (Mississauga, Ont.) was called for slashing and unsportsmanlike conduct, which resulted in a four-minute penalty and 10-minute misconduct. Guelph used the man advantage to score right away with James Merrett knocking one in from inside the crease to make it 6-1, with Charbonneau and Trecapelli on the assists. Neuber also scored his third of the night on a power play after UOIT player Nate Mitton (Kitchener, Ont.) was called for high-sticking, making it 7-1 for the Gryphons, with Daniel Broussard and Cale Jefferies on the assists. The Gryphons would score one more by John Collins shortly after to make it 8-1, with Huard and Merrett on the assists.
Ridgeback Jordan Ramsay would score his second goal of the night in the last minute of the game with Jason Shaw and Mike Whiteside on the assists for a final score of 8-2 for the Gryphons.
The shots on goal were 28-24 in favour of the Gryphons.

Ottawa 7 @ Brock 3
Two second period goals by Matthieu Tanguay-Theriault lifted the Gee-Gees to a 7-3 victory over the Brock Badgers in St. Catharine’s on Saturday afternoon. The win is Ottawa’s sixth straight and moves the squad into fourth place in the OUA East standings.
The lead exchanged hands several times in the first two periods. After Brock struck first at the 6:22 mark, Ottawa stormed back with three goals, including two on the power play.
The power play was vital to Ottawa retaking the lead once more following the Badgers’ tying the game at 3-3 midway through the second frame. Tanguay-Theriault’s first goal of the game came at 15:53, just one minute after Brock had notched the equalizer.
The second-year forward then started off a blistering third period for Ottawa with a power play goal at 3:30. All told, Ottawa was 5-for-7 with the man advantage and scored three power play markers in the final stanza to put the Badgers away.

Nipissing 2 @ Waterloo 1
Saturday night at the Columbia Icefield Arena began with such a celebratory tone. The Nipissing Lakers made sure it didn't end that way.
The Lakers executed their neutral zone defensive game to near perfection, and goalie Kirk Rafuse made 30 saves as Nipissing frustrated the Warriors into a 2-1 defeat on Saturday night.
Connor O'Donnell and Brogan Bailey scored for the visiting Lakers (3-9-0), who got their first road win in six attempts this season. Andy Smith (Rosetown) responded for Waterloo, who falls to 5-5-1 on the season. Warriors keeper Justin Leclerc (Saskatoon) made 23 saves in the loss, while John Chartrand replaced an injured Refuse for the final 91 seconds of the game, contributing one save to the Nipissing cause.
The evening began with plenty of pomp and circumstance, as the Warriors hoisted their OUA West division championship banner from a year ago. The Warriors also recognized the 40th anniversary of the 1973-74 University Cup championship team, and they began their new All-Canadian banner series by honouring legend Ron Hawkshaw, the first All-Canadian in Waterloo history.
After the red carpets were rolled away, both teams seemed to start tentatively. The first frame was with very few stoppages and featured end-to-end play, but it also featured very few top-notch scoring chances. The game remained scoreless after 20 minutes.
The Warriors found penalty trouble mid-way through the second period, as minor calls on Justin Larson (Buckhorn) and Jeff Einhorn (Red Deer) put Waterloo down two men. Only 14 seconds into the 5-on-3 advantage, O'Donnell caught Leclerc leaning and slipped a shot through the five-hole to put Nipissing up 1-0 after two periods.
The Warriors were buzzing to start the third, but a bad bounce and a turnover in their own zone led to the disc ricocheting in off of Bailey and past Leclerc to make it 2-0 Lakers early in the final frame. Just over one minute later, Smith drew the Warriors to within one when, after a glorious glove save from Rafuse, the puck popped out of his glove and straight up. Smith whacked it out of mid-air to cut the Lakers lead in half.
Try as they might, the Warriors never got closer in the third. When Rafuse was injured on a goal mouth scramble with 1:31 left in regulation, Waterloo head coach Brian Bourque decided to pull his netminder and get pucks towards the cold keeper. However, the staunch neutral zone play of the Lakers proved too much for the Warriors, as they fell 2-1.

Tyler McGee could not be contained Saturday (Nov. 16), notching three points for the York University Lions men's hockey team in a 3-1 upset victory over the No. 4 McGill Redmen at Canlan Ice Sports.
The win bumps the Lions up to 7-5-0 on the year, placing them in a tie for fourth place in the OUA West standings. The loss for the Redmen was just their second of the year in regulation, dropping them to 8-2-1 on the year.
McGee (Timmins, Ont.) was unstoppable in the contest, scoring two goals and adding an assist. Teammate Michael Santini (Woodbridge, Ont.) also had a multi-point night with two assists.
The Lions looked polished from the first faceoff, skating with speed and using the passing lanes well. They turned that into a goal on the scoreboard almost immediately, as McGee was able to sneak in his first goal of the game just 54 seconds into the period to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead.
The game would prove to be extremely physical, and penalty trouble at the midway point of the first led to a 5-on-3 power play opportunity for McGill. But an impressive demonstration of penalty killing saw the Lions outlast the advantage with the lead still in hand.
The Lions continued to lay it on thick, and would earn a power play of their own near the end of the frame. A nice display of passing on the advantage led to a beautiful one-timer shot from the slot that sailed just wide.
York would carry the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Returning to the ice for the second period, McGill's Jonathan Brunelle (Boisbriand, Que.) evened the score just 1:50 into the frame, beating goaltender Andrew Perugini (King City, Ont.) for the goal.
The quick goal did little to distract the Lions, however, as McGee and Evan Gravenor (Winnipeg) responded minutes later for York. Bursting into the zone on a 2-on-1 advantage, the two teammates passed the puck between each other down the slot, creating space for Gravenor to rifle the puck into the back of the net.
Unwilling to lay off the gas pedal, McGee would once again streak into the zone moments before the final intermission on an exciting breakaway opportunity. McGee would deliver, performing a beautiful deke on goaltender Andrew Flemming (Quispamsis, N.B.) for the highlight goal that ignited the crowd.
The Lions carried the 3-1 advantage into the final frame.
Riding their momentum for most of the final period, the Lions were able to hold McGill at bay by executing error-free hockey. The physical play of the prior two periods continued, but there would be no offensive production generated.
Perugini was stellar in net for the Lions, recording 19 saves to earn the win, while Flemming stopped 20 of the 23 shots he faced.

Queen’s 1 @ Western 2 (OT)
LONDON, Ont. – Matt Clarke scored the game-winner with 18 seconds left in overtime and Josh Unice stopped 28 of 29 shots to lead the Mustangs to a 2-1 victory over the Queen's Gaels on Saturday night at Thompson Arena.
"I think the guys were really disappointed last weekend not coming away with any points after going on a pretty long road trip," said Mustangs assistant coach Brendan Riggin after the game. "So there was a little bit of motivation to play well this weekend and I think they responded real well getting the four points."
The Mustangs were both the first and the last team to draw blood on Saturday as the two teams engaged in back-and-forth hockey for much of the night. Both goaltenders played well but Unice was exceptionally strong on the night, making a number of nice saves to keep the Mustangs in the game.
"He can change the momentum of a game with just one save," Riggin said of Unice after the game. "We really needed that game out of him tonight and the guys obviously responded well having him back between the pipes."
While Unice only faced with five shots in the first, he provided what was most likely the highlight of the night in the frame, pulling the Mustangs' faithful onto their feet and into the game. With the Gaels descending on a 2-on-1, Unice leapt across the net to make a spectacular stick save and keep the game scoreless, denying Queen's what seemed like a sure goal.
Daniel Erlich got the Mustangs on the board in the first with his fifth goal of the season, firing a shot from the point on the power play that glanced off a Queen's defender and fooled net-minder Kevin Bailie. Heading into Saturday night's matchup, the sophomore forward led the league in assists and was also tied for first in points with 20 and, with his goal on Saturday, he now leads the OUA outright in points.
After the game, Riggin had nothing but praise for Erlich's play so far this season.
"Obviously he's been great and he's really helping out the team putting the points up on the board," Riggin said. "He does a really good job on our power play and he's someone that we can obviously rely on so hopefully we can keep his production up for the rest of the season."
Unice would have to be sharp for the Mustangs in the second as the Gaels seemed to find their groove, sending a total of 15 shots towards Western's net. He added a second highlight reel save 1:46 into the frame on a penalty kill, flashing the leather on a shot from the faceoff dot.
Yet Queen's second period offensive outburst would finally pay off late in the second as Kelly Jackson registered the Gaels' first goal of the night on a shorthanded breakaway with 1:51 left in the frame. Jackson stole the puck from a Western defender at the line before keeping on the 2-on-1 and burying his own rebound.
Unice would steal the show again to start the third though, somehow finding a Queen's point shot through a screen in time to make a fantastic glove save. Not to be outdone by himself, he would make another highlight reel, game-saving glove save on a point-blank shot with less than three minutes left in the frame.
On the other end, Bailie was also forced to make a number of saves, including a nice stop on a Zach Harnden shot from the faceoff dot with five minutes left. Bailie ended the night with 27 saves overall, 12 of which came in his big first period.
With the teams unable to settle the score in regulation, the game headed to overtime where the teams proceeded to take turns generating offense. The first good chance of the extra frame came about half way through when Clarke flipped the puck over the Queen's defender giving himself a breakaway only to be stopped by Bailie.
But the best chance came with 18 seconds left when Clarke found himself next to Bailie again and managed to just barely slip the puck behind him. The goal sent the Mustangs faithful, who had been cheering loud all night, flying out of their seats and the Western players pouring from the bench.

UQTR 3 @ Windsor 5
WINDSOR, Ont. - Kenny Bradford tallied two goals and Parker Van Buskirk made 37 saves, helping the Windsor Lancers men's hockey team defeat UQTR 5-3 on Saturday night at South Windsor Arena.
Four Lancers had multi-point games, including Bradford who led all players with three points.
The men accumulated a 3-1 lead in the second period, and maintained a two-goal advantage heading into the final 20 minutes of play. A quick goal from the Patriotes early in the last frame brought the lead down to one. However, Bradford added an empty netter, his fifth of the season, to clinch a ninth Lancers victory.
Windsor was 1-of-3 with the man-advantage, while UQTR converted on 1-of-6 power-play opportunities.

Concordia 1 @ Lakehead 3
The Lakehead Thunderwolves beat the Concordia Stingers 3-1 in front of 2686 fans on Saturday night at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay.
The Wolves came out with more energy than they did on Friday night, and were rewarded early when a Mitch Fillman slapshot beat Concordia netminder Antonio Mastropietro. The assists on the goal were credited to Andrew Wilkins and Mike Hammond.
Jake Carrick put the Thunderwolves up 2-0 when he intercepted a Concordia clearing attempt and made no mistake in putting the puck up and over Mastropietro.
Concordia pulled to within one at 14:36 of the opening frame when George Lovatsis banged home his own rebound past Wolves’ goalie Jeff Bosch, who was making his first appearance since suffering a knee injury at Minnesota-Duluth in early October.
Mastropietro kept the Stingers in the game in the second period with some big saves on Ryan Magill and Cody Alcock, but later Alcock jammed a loose puck past Mastropietro giving Lakehead a 3-1 lead at the 14:22 mark of the middle stanza.
Tempers flared in a scoreless third period, and things came to a head when Lakehead’s Trevor Gamache and Concordia’s Adam Nugent-Hopkins dropped the gloves in a spirited fight, resulting in both players being ejected from the game.
The win gives the Wolves an OUA record of 9-1 and keeps them in a tie with Windsor for first place in the West Division, but Lakehead does have a game in hand over the Lancers.

Laurentian 0 @ Laurier 6
WATERLOO, Ont. (November 16, 2013) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's hockey team looked to wrap up a weekend home stand with back-to-back wins as they hosted the Laurentian Voyageurs.
Coming off of a stellar offensive performance against the Nipissing Lakers, the Hawks offence showed no signs of slowing down, matching a season-high six goals as they downed the Voyageurs 6-0.
The Golden Hawks opened the scoring late in the first period off of a power play marker from Greg Cerilli of Barrie, Ont. Laurier's Tanner Olstad of Calgary, Alta., found the back of the net in the dying seconds of the first to put the Hawks up by two.
The Hawks continued to hold the Voyageurs offence at bay and eventually capitalized on another power play opportunity from Derek Schoenmakers of Kitchener, Ont., netting his eighth goal of the season.
Laurier never looked back as they continued to bombard the Voyageurs in the third period. Ben Skinner of Markham, Ont., scored a shorthanded goal to put the Hawks up by four, crushing any hopes of a comeback for the Voyageurs.
Greg Lamoureux of Calgary, Alta., contributed to the offensive surge with a single marker, and Skinner would earn his second goal of the contest later in the period to down the Voyageurs 6-0.
Duncan Long of Brantford, Ont. got the start for the Hawks, turning aside 31 shots to earn his first shutout as a Golden Hawk. Charlie Millen of Bridgenorth, Ont., backed the Voyageurs, turning aside 45 shots in a losing effort.
Stellar defensive play, rock solid goaltending, and an explosive offence lifted the Hawks past the Voyageurs, and proved to be the story for the Hawks this weekend.
