QUEEN'S BLANKS YORK, LAURIER DOMINATES WESTERN
Queen's University (3-4-2) won their second straight game with a 5-0 shutout of the York University (6-3) in Toronto Friday night. The Gaels delivered an impressive offensive performance over the Lions, scoring three times on their eight power plays.
Liz Kench (Gananoque, Ont.) scored both markers on nice setups from Andrea LeBlanc (Newmarket, Ont.) and Amanada Morra (Pickering, Ont.) Morra added a third period goal to her two assists while Kelsey Thomson (Martintown, Ont.) and Becky Conroy (Pembroke, Ont.) were credited with the other Queen's goals.
Gael goaltender Katie Boyd (Richmond Hill, Ont.) made 32 saves in the shutout. Queen's also fired 32 shots in the game, however the difference came on special teams as York was unable to capitalize on their five power plays.
Laurier 4, Western 1
The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (6-1) scored four unanswered goals, including two in less then ten seconds in the first period to defeat the University Western Mustangs (2-3-3) 4-1. The loss for Western puts them below the .500 mark on the season while Laurier has extended their win streak to four games.
Hawk captain Lauren Meschino (Toronto, Ont.) led Laurier with three points including her second goal of the season as the team out shot the Mustangs 26-13. Andrea Ironside (Collingwood, Ont.) picked up her first two goals of the season including the game winner and the third goal of the game.
Daniela Di Felice (Kitchener, Ont.) scored the opening goal of the game following a Western goal by Cassandra Welten (Crysler, Ont.) who beat Hawk goaltender Liz Knox (Stouffville, Ont.).
