WALTERS JOINS BLUE BOMBERS STAFF
In 2008, the Gryphons earned a home playoff game, while in 2007, Guelph had one of their best seasons in recent history, going 4-4 and hosting the 100th Yates Cup, their first Yates appearance since 1996. Walters has also been the special teams coordinator for the West team in the last three CIS all-star games.
The native of St. Thomas, Ont. previously served as the Gryphons full-time assistant football coach and defensive coordinator from 2004-2005. Prior to his coaching career in CIS, Walters spent the 2003 season as the assistant special teams coach of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
As a player, Walters played safety and halfback from 1997-2003 with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, helping them win the 1999 Grey Cup, while serving as the special teams captain for three of those seasons. His CIS career saw him play from 1992-1996 at Guelph, while being named team captain in 1996 and capturing the Yates Championship in 1992 and 1996.
"I am extremely excited to have Kyle directing the special teams for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. As a former player who was a special teams captain in the CFL, he will do a tremendous job teaching and motivating our players. We also are excited to promote the Canadian part of our game by elevating one of the bright young minds in the CIS, to the CFL," said head coach Paul LaPolice.
