MCMASTER FOOTBALL TO HONOUOR TEAM OF THE DECADE 2000-09
Continuing the tradition of recognizing those Marauder greats of past eras, this group will be representative of one of the most successful periods in McMaster football history. From 2000 to 2003, the Marauders won an unprecedented four consecutive Yates Cup OUA championships.
Selected by a committee of McMaster football alumni, the team of the decade will showcase 30 players, representing the best at all positions, who wore the maroon and grey during the years 2000 to 2009. Among those on the selection committee are current head coach Stefan Ptaszek, former coaches Marcello Campanaro and Greg Marshall, and former defensive coordinator and CHML radio commentator Joe Sardo.
"It was tough to narrow the selections to 30," commented Ptaszek. "Some are obvious but when you have so many talented individuals, the debates can get pretty interesting."
In addition to announcing the team of the decade, the Marauder football gala dinner will present its annual high school coach of the year award. The award is intended to recognize outstanding leadership and contribution to the development of high school football in Hamilton and the surrounding area. Candidates are nominated and coaches from the regions of Hamilton, Halton, Niagara, and Haldimand are eligible to be considered.
Ticket information for the McMaster Football Gala Dinner is available at www.marauders.ca or by calling 905-525-9140, ext. 24463.
