OUA FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
This rookie receiver from Toronto had a breakout game for the Gaels in their overtime home loss to the No. 2 Ottawa Gee-Gees. Aprile pulled in seven receptions for 179 yards and a touchdown, the first of his CIS career. A number of his receptions came in the second half as the Gaels overcame a 14 point first quarter deficit to force overtime with Ottawa.
The fourth-year Kinesiology major led a dominating defensive performance with 12.5 total tackles (nine solo, seven assisted), including three for a loss of 17 yards. Robinson, a Vancouver native, added 2.5 sacks which cost the Gryphons 16 yards and was responsible for the low output of Guelph's running game, holding fifth-year star running back Nick FitzGibbon scoreless. Robinson is tied for third in the nation with 4.5 sacks, good for second spot in OUA.
Third-year kicker Matthew Falvo from Welland, Ontario, was clearly the game hero for the Gee-Gees this past weekend, and was called upon twice in the game to make some clutch field goals. Not only did Falvo make a 26 yard field goal to send the game into overtime at 14:42 in the fourth quarter; but, he also made the game winning field goal in overtime from 30 yards out.
