MARCEL BELLEFEUILLE ADDED TO THE FCCA CONVENTION LINEUP
The newly formed Football Canada Coaches Association (FCCA) is pleased to announce current Hamilton Tiger-cats’ Head Coach Marcel Bellefeuille as a speaker at the 2011 FCCA CONVENTION being held April 2nd and 3rd in Burlington, Ontario at Corpus Christi High School.
On October 27, 2008, Marcel Bellefeuille became the 20th Head Coach in Hamilton Tiger-Cats history, removing his interim tag which he assumed in December 2007. In his first full year as H.C., he led the Ticats to a 9-9 record, second place in the East Division, their first home playoff game since 2001 and was one of three nominees for the CFL Coach of the Year Award. Bellefeuille is entering his third season as Tiger-cats Head Coach after his team captured second place in the East Division in 2010, losing a close fought semi-final playoff showdown to the Argos.
Marcel Bellefeuille began coaching high school football in Ottawa from 1991 through 1995. He also coached in the junior coaching ranks with the Ottawa Sooners before landing at the University of Ottawa first as an assistant (1995- 1997) and then as the Gee-Gee’s Head Coach. Bellefeuille was named the 1999 (Ontario-Quebec Intercollegiate Football Conference (OQIFC) Coach of the year. In 2000 at the helm of the Gee-Gees, Bellefeuille capped a 7-1 regular season by winning the Vanier Cup, the Gee-Gee football program’s second national championship.
Marcel was hired by the Alouettes in 2006 as the team’s Running Backs and Receivers coach after a five-year tenure with the Saskatchewan Roughriders – the latter three as the ’Riders’ Offensive Coordinator. His next coaching stop was in Hamilton as the Tigercats’ Offensive Coordinator, a role which he assumed in December of 2007 after running the Alouettes offense the previous year. Bellefeuille’s offences routinely established themselves among the league’s premier running attacks. In his three seasons leading Saskatchewan’s offence, Bellefeuille helped the ’Riders gain over 7,000 rushing yards and his offense lead the league in rushing for three consecutive years (2003-05). Bellefeuille has held CFL coaching jobs overseeing each individual offensive position.
Bellefeuille is an Ottawa native that grew up cheering for the Ottawa Rough Riders. He played minor football with both the Alta Vista Raiders and Canterbury Mustangs (NCAFA). Marcel also played high school football at Ridgemont where he won a city championship in 1983. After playing RB and DB for the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees, Marcel enjoyed a brief stint with Ottawa Bootleggers (semi-pro) before directing his passion for football towards coaching.
