Laurier honours the Team of the Century
The dinner took place at the Waterloo Inn and Conference Hotel in Waterloo. Approximately 400 guests were in attendance, including alumni, friends and over 25 corporate sponsors.
The Team of the Century consists of 33 individuals who were selected from over 150 nominations. 29 of the players were in attendance at the dinner. The individuals were selected based on criteria that included but wasn't limited to: a minimum of two years participation at Laurier, graduation, member of championship team(s), provincial or national awards, membership in the Golden Hawk Hall of Fame, professional participation, versatility, character and citizenship. The Team of the Century player list is available here.
The Friends of Golden Hawk Football Reception and Dinner is a fundraising initiative of the Laurier Golden Hawk Football program. To date, the event has raised over $700,000 for the Golden Hawk football program. The funds are directed into enhancements and support, such as equipment, academic assistance, coaching support and facilities.
Those in attendance at the dinner also caught a glimpse of some of the new face of Laurier Football. A total of 21 of the 41 committed recruits were introduced at the event by Golden Hawk football's head coach, Gary Jeffries.
Laurier will open the football season on the road against York on September 5th. Their home opener will be on September 10th versus the Windsor Lancers.
