WESTERN'S CHAMBERLAIN GETS ROYAL TREATMENT
CIS all-Canadian defenceman Matt Bannan is skating with the Florida Everblades (Carolina Hurricanes) while forwards Mike Rice and Chris Rowan are playing for the Wheeling Nailers (Pittsburgh Penguins) and the Long Beach Ice Dogs (Montreal Canadiens) respectively.
"Jamie, Matt, Chris and Mike have all contributed a great deal to the school and hockey program here at Western the last four years. We are very pleased that these players now have an opportunity to continue their playing careers with four of the top ECHL teams," says Western head coach Clarke Singer.
The Dallas Stars selected Chamberlain in the ninth round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft (No. 265). He went on to score 141 points in 226 games with the Peterborough Petes before being traded to the Kingston Frontenacs in his final season of OHL hockey. With the Frontenacs, the heady forward tallied seven points in nine games.
Since joining the Mustangs in 2002, Chamberlain scored at well over a point a game pace, recording 100 points in 91 games. His last two seasons, he was named an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) all-star and led the Mustangs to an OUA championship in 2005.
Chamberlain also skated for Team Canada at the 2005 Winter Universiade in Innsbruck, Austria.
