MUSTANG CAPTAIN SIGNS WITH EC HANNOVER
"I am very excited to go and further my hockey career in Hanover, Germany. It will be an excellent opportunity for me to play at a high level of hockey and experience a different part of the world. I have to thank all my former coaches and teammates for this opportunity that would have not been possible," says Chamberlain.
"I would especially like to thank Clarke Singer. Western has proven to be the best university hockey program in the country and continues to create opportunities throughout the hockey world for its alumni."
"Jamie has had a tremendous career at Western and we are very happy to see him get an opportunity to play professional hockey overseas. I am sure he will enjoy the same success with Hanover, as he had here," says Western head coach Clarke Singer.
At the close of the Mustang season, the Sarnia native inked a deal to skate with the Reading Royals, the Los Angeles Kings' ECHL affiliate, for their playoff run and picked up two assists during the North Division semifinal.
The Dallas Stars selected Chamberlain in the ninth round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft (No. 265). He went on to score 141 points in 226 games with the Peterborough Petes before being traded to the Kingston Frontenacs in his final season of OHL hockey. With the Frontenacs, the heady forward tallied seven points in nine games.
Since joining the Mustangs in 2002, Chamberlain scored at over a point a game pace, recording 100 points in 91 games. His last two seasons, he was named an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) all-star and led the Mustangs to an OUA championship in 2005.
Chamberlain also skated for Team Canada at the 2005 Winter Universiade in Innsbruck, Austria.
The EC Hannover Indians, coached by Canadian Greg Thomson, play in the Oberliga and draw nearly 8,000 fans a game.
