GIBSON TAKES OVER AS A GAELS BENCH BOSS
\"Brett was the unanimous choice of last years' players and was highly recommended by Kirk Muller as the best candidate to take over the head coaching position,\" said McFarlane. \"He is highly motivated, well organized and has a great knowledge of the game beyond his years. He believes that he can build a championship team and impressed me with his game plan to achieve success for our hockey program.\"
Gibson, an assistant coach to Muller during the 2005-06 season, was an associate coach with the Kingston Frontenacs of the OHL during the 2004-05 season. As a player, Brett played for four years in the Ontario Hockey League. Following his time in the OHL, Brett joined the St. Mary's Huskies hockey team for a three-year period and was a member of the AUAA Championship team in 2002. After graduating from St. Mary's with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, Gibson played two years professional hockey in the East Coast Hockey League.
No stranger to university hockey Brett said, "I am both excited and honoured to take over the men's hockey program at Queen's. I feel that the commitment the players made last year to the program will pay dividends this year on the ice. I truly feel the commitment that Queen's Athletics has shown towards recruitment will allow the team to compete with any school in the CIS. My goal is to provide an environment where players will excel not only on the ice but in the classroom as well.\"
A native of Gananoque, ON, Brett brings continuity and youthful leadership to the Golden Gaels.
Assisting head coach Gibson with coaching duties during the upcoming hockey season will be Jaime Pringle, Paul Fowler and Andrew Hausler. As an assistant coach with the OHL Kingston Frontenacs from 2004-06 and as the assistant coach with the OHL Belleville Bulls, Pringle brings a wealth of coaching expertise to the position. Fowler was an assistant coach for two years with the Gananoque Islanders Jr. B. Team and was also a GM with the same team. He spent one year as an assistant coach with the Minor Midget AAA Greater Kingston program. Rounding out the coaching staff will be former Golden Gaels standout and captain Haussler. Haussler played for the Gaels from 2001 until 2004. Andrew returned recently to Kingston from Germany where he has played professional hockey since finishing up his playing career with Queen's.
