The Ravens were first to get on the scoreboard before opening a 4-1 lead over the Gee-Gees. Carleton would retain their lead for the duration of the quarter until Ottawa's Kelly Weir (Ottawa, Ont.) would sink a three-point shot for the opposition's first lead of the game at 15-13. The quarter concluded with Carleton trailing Ottawa by four points, 17-13.
The Gee-Gees carried on their momentum into the second quarter as they continued to mount a run of nine-unanswered points for a 21-13 Ottawa lead. Fourth-year forward Ines Jelic (London, Ont.) would break the streak with a two-point shot to cut the deficit to six points. Strong rebounding in the final minutes of the half by the Ravens allowed them to stay within seven points of the Gee-Gees, who held a 32-25 advantage at the break.
In the third quarter, Carleton climbed back into the game as they went on an eight-point run to resume the lead for the first time since the opening quarter, going ahead 42-34. The Ravens would hold the lead throughout the match as they outscored the Gee-Gees by 16 points in the third for a 47-40 lead entering the final quarter of play.
Successful shooting in the fourth quarter by Carleton saw the Ravens outscore the Gee-Gees for the second consecutive quarter. A 15-13 edge in the fourth would help Carleton secure a nine-point victory.
Leading the scoring for Carleton was Tanya Perry (Barrie, Ont.) with a game-high 20 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Jelic added an impressive 18-point tally and seven boards while teammates Kelly Killoran (Sarnia, Ont.) and Ashleigh Cleary (Kemptville, Ont.) each added six points to the Ravens total.
The Gee-Gee's scoring leaders on the night were Hannah Sunley-Paisley (Toronto, Ont.) and Ottawa native Katie Laurie who each contributed 11 points in the game. Allison Forbes (Riverview, N.B.) scored eight points and recorded three rebounds in Ottawa's loss.

WESTERN 80, BROCK 60
LONDON, Ont. - Winning the battle in the paint, the Western Mustangs built a 21-9 lead after the first quarter and never trailed to win 80-60 at Alumni Hall in front of 400 fans on Jan. 28.
Amanda Anderson (Chatham, Ont.) and Megan Lapointe (Burlington, Ont.) both scored a game-high 18 points, with Lapointe adding seven rebounds. Bess Lennox (Ottawa, Ont.) recorded another double-double with 14 points and 10 boards.
Western improved to 12-5 and remain in second place in the OUA West Division trailing first-place Windsor (16-1).
Jessica Del Signore (Brantford, Ont.) had 15 points off the bench for the Badgers, who fall to 6-11 in seventh place in the OUA West.
With just nine players in the line-up due to a sling of injuries, and coming off a pair of road losses, Western knew they had to score early and often.
Lapointe scored opening six points for Western to build an early 6-3 lead. With Kim Hurley (Stratford, Ont.) sinking a long two with just over three minutes left in the first, the Mustangs extended the lead to 12-3 with strong play in paint.
Western carried a 21-9 lead after the opening quarter. Western's Nadine Paron (Arva, Ont.) hit a three to extend the lead to 24-9. She also finished in double-digit scoring with a total of 17 points in the game.
Continuing her strong play she hit the next shot getting open in transition along the wing and Western built the lead the 17 points.
Junior guard Britt Pegg (Weyburn, Sask.) forced back-to-back steals within 18 seconds to bring Brock back within 10 points as Western struggled in the back court. She scored the next Brock basket to make it 29-21 midway through the second quarter. Pegg then set up Whitney Gorges (Welland, Ont.) who hit to pull the Badgers within six.
But the hot-shooting Badger cooled down when Anderson stepped up when Western needed it most, coming into the game and hitting a key three after a stint resting on the bench.
Brittany MacDonald (Toronto), while hitting just two of eight shots, was crucial in re-establishing the Mustangs' momentum twice when it counted midway through the game. Her first trey extended the lead back to 12 at 40-28 with just over a minute remaining in the half. Brock outscored Western 21-19 in the second quarter but Western still led by 10 at the half.
Anderson nailed a three to open the third quarter, giving the Mustangs another 13-point lead. Throughout the quarter, Western controlled the tempo and continued to hold a comfortable cushion.
The Mustangs led 55-42 after the third quarter for Western - the Mustangs held a two to one rebounding advantage
Western built biggest lead of game at 20 in the fourth quarter, and despite Brock's high-risk, three-point offence in the fourth quarter, the Mustangs held on for the win.
