ANDERSON BECOMES MUSTANGS ALL-TIME SCORING LEADER IN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Anderson entered the game just one point shy of Michelle Vesprini's 1,171 career total, and buried a long jumper from the left corner midway through the first quarter.
"Obviously it was something that was brought up all week," said Anderson. "It was nice to get it out of the way early."
Anderson scored just six points in the first half, but continued her recent trend of brilliant second half performances. She opened the third quarter by curling around a screen to knock down a jumper. In the fourth Anderson hit a pair of huge three-pointers, the second coming as Western trailed 63-59 with 1:11 remaining in the game.
After a stop by the Mustangs, Bess Lennox (Ottawa, Ont.) muscled her way inside to draw the foul, and calmly sank two free throws to give Western the lead.
After a Lakehead timeout, the Thunderwolves tried to inbound the ball, but it was stolen by Kelly Moulden (Dundas, Ont.).
Anderson knocked down two more free throws and Lakehead was unable to get a clean look as time expired.
Anderson's 21 second-half points came one game after scoring 17 fourth-quarter points in a win over Guelph on Jan. 31.
"Amanda was on fire in the second half," said Mustangs coach Stephan Barrie. "That's what she's doing for us lately."
Lennox, the nation's leading rebounder (12.1 rpg), finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and recorded her 15th double-double of the season. She shot just 0-of-6 from the field, but was a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line.
"We shot well from the free throw line," said Anderson. "That was key."
