TOP RECRUIT COMMITS TO LAKEHEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
THUNDER BAY, Ont. - Lakehead Thunderwolves women's basketball and head coach Jon Kreiner are very pleased to announce that Corina Bruni (Sault. Ste. Marie, Ont.) has committed to the Lakehead Thunderwolves for the 2009-10 season.
The 5-foot-6 guard was a standout player at St. Basil's High School in the Soo where she led her team to two consecutive undefeated regular seasons, two straight city championships, and two straight NOSSA titles.
This year she was St. Basil's captain and averaged 13.7 points per game, 9.3 assists per game and 4.1 steals per game. At St. Basil's she has been an 80-plus percent honours student and she will be studying Kinesiology at Lakehead.
Kreiner said Bruni should be a perfect fit with the Wolves.
"We are very excited to add Corina Bruni to the Thunderwolves women's basketball program. Corina is an individual with excellent character who exemplifies what our program is about. She has heart, determination and a great work ethic. She is also very focused on what she wants to do academically. Corina is quick, very athletic and a tremendous passer. She is both mentally and physically tough and plays the game with passion. As a leader on the floor, she has the skill set that we require in our offensive and defensive systems. Corina is a great fit as she will compliment and add depth to our backcourt."
Bruni said she is looking forward to studying at Lakehead and playing basketball at the OUA and CIS level.
"I chose Lakehead U because the school has excellent facilities, a great academic reputation, and I was impressed with how serious their athletic programs are, especially basketball. The faculty and students are very welcoming and supportive. I hope to maximize my university experience by learning about many new things that will give me a good head start on a career in human kinetics. I hope to be a valuable member of the Thunderwolves basketball program. Lakehead is a popular post-secondary option for Sault Ste. Marie students and the Northern Ontario flavour really appeals to me. It seems to be a great fit for me and I can't wait to attend in the fall!"
