LAURIER STAYS PERFECT WITH OT WIN OVER BLUES
The second-place Guelph Gryphons took three of a possible four points this week as they defeated the York Lions 3-2 Thursday and then tied the Western Mustangs 1-1 Saturday. Second-year London native Arden Sullivan kept up her hot hand with two goals, both on the power play, in the win over York. Sullivan leads the country in power-play markers with six and is tied for the CIS lead in goals (seven) and points (12). Aleisha Lusk made 22 saves for her fourth victory of the year. Against Western Guelph took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Elysia Desmier in the first period but Lisa MacDonald tied the game up 1-1 in the second. Overtime would solve nothing.
The Queen’s Golden Gaels upped their record to 6-4-2 with a pair of wins over the Waterloo Warriors this week. In the first meeting on Saturday, Queen’s got two goals Miranda Costie, including the winner at 17:54 of the first period, in a 5-1 victory. Victoria Kaufmann added two assists, while goaltender Claire Hunt had an easy night stopping 13 of 14 shots for the win. Kaufmann scored the winning goal, her team-high third marker of the season, in the second game Sunday, beating Waterloo’s Alexis Huber at 16:54 of the third period. Amanda Stenson scored the other goal for the Golden Gaels, while Kirsten Lindstol had the lone marker for the Warriors.
Brock and Windsor played twice this weekend with both games going to overtime. Windsor took a 2-1 lead into the third period of Friday’s games with the Badgers at South Windsor Arena but Brock’s Kate Allgood scored at 11:30 of the third period to send the game to the extra session. In the rematch Saturday, Allgood was the hero for the visiting Badgers once gain. With Brock down 3-2 after 40 minutes, Allgood notched her seventh goal in seven games to help salvage another point. Goalie Amanda Cretto was sharp, making 33 saves for the Lancers.
