HAWKS BUILD A BIG LEAD IN THE OUA

Heather Goemans also had a goal and an assist for Brock, which scored three times in the second period. Sara Kirchner stopped all 26 shots she faced for the shut-out. The Gryphons did bounce back Sunday with a 3-1 win over the Queen's Golden Gaels to earn an important two points. Sarah Woods, Brittany Roberts and Nicole Latreille all scored for the Gryphons, while Miranda Costie had the lone Queen's goal. Prior to that game, the Gaels had grabbed a piece of second place with a 4-1 win over the Western Mustangs Saturday. Chantelle Johnson had a goal and an assist for Queen's, which scored four unanswered goals after Western had taken an early 1-0 lead. Goalie Melissa John was sharp making 30 saves for the victory.
The last-place Mustangs began their week with a 2-0 blanking of the Waterloo Warriors. Danielle Le Ber turned away all 29 Warrior shots for the shut-out win. Amy Groen was credited with the winning goal at 2:32 of the first period, while Rachel Park added another in the third to ice the game. Waterloo was also dumped 2-1 by the Windsor Lancers Saturday in Windsor. Jodilyn Brown had a goal and an assist for the Lancers, while Megan Casey also scored. The win improves Windsor to 4-6-4-1 on the year.
Toronto climbed over the .500 mark as the Varsity Blues won in convincing fashion, 4-0 over the rival York Lions Sunday at Varsity Arena. The Blues led 1-0 after one period and then exploded for three third-period goals to down the Lions (4-6-4-0). Janine Davies scored twice for Toronto, while Patry and Laura Foster added the other goals. The Blues sent 43 shots towards standout York goaltender Melanie Quinn, while Lisa Robertson had to make just 19 saves for the shut-out.
