GOLDEN HAWKS EARN TWO TOUGH WINS

The defending CIS champion Laurier Golden Hawks remained undefeated with a pair of wins this week, though they were tested in both. Laurier needed a pair of goals in the third period to get by the Windsor Lancers 7-5 in Windsor Friday. Candice Djukic had two goals and an assist for the Golden Hawks, while Laurissa Kenworthy (1-4-5) and Fiona Aiston (1-3-4) both had big offensive contributions. Jodilyn Brown scored twice for Windsor. Amanda Ironside scored the winner at 18:43 of the second period as Laurier beat the Western Mustangs 3-2 in London Saturday. Morgan Wielgosz made 18 saves as the Hawks improved 9-0-0-0.

Lauren Hoogasian and Briar Komenda had a goal and an assist, leading the Brock Badgers to a 4-2 win over the York Lions Saturday at Merritton Arena. Brock scored three times on the power play, including Hoogasian’s winner at 6:38 of the second period. Laura Amiado made 24 saves for the win in the Badgers net. Amanda Cole and Jessica Turi had the York goals, both coming on the power play.

In the only other OUA game of the weekend, Kirsten Lindstol had three assists as the Waterloo Warriors defeated the Toronto Varsity Blues 4-2 Saturday. Trailing 3-1 late in the third, the Blues tried to rally with an unassisted marker from Annie Delguidice but Waterloo iced it with an empty-netter from Kaleena Yeung with 37 seconds remaining in regulation. The win was Waterloo’s third on the season.
