LUSK STANDS TALL AS GRYPHONS TAKE TWO
Amanda Stenson scored at 0:51 of overtime as the Queen’s Golden Gaels beat the Toronto Varsity Blues 2-1 in the first of two games between the teams at Jock Harty Arena. Claire Hunt made 32 saves Saturday to pick up her fifth win of the season. The third-year goaltender from Holyrood, NFLD made another 30 saves in Sunday’s game, a 4-3 Queen’s win over the Blues. Hunt is 6-0-0 with only eight goals allowed in seven games played. Stenson and Amanda Morra had a goal and an assist each for the Golden Gaels, while Mary Modeste scored twice for Toronto. Queen’s is 7-2-1-o with 15 points after 10 games, a single point behind the unbeaten Laurier Golden Hawks, who have 16 points from eight straight wins, with two games in hand. Laurier won its only game of the week, a 5-1 decision over the Lions Sunday, thanks to a hat-trick from Laurissa Kenworthy. Kenworthy, who sits tied for third in OUA scoring with seven goals and four assists, scored once in the second period and added another pair in the third to complete the trick. Morgan Wielgosz recorded her fourth win in as many games by making 22 saves for visitors.
The Western Mustangs used a five-goal outburst in the second period to defeat the Brock Badgers 7-2 Saturday. Amanda Somerville had two goals and an assist for the Mustangs, while Sara Lynch added a goal and three helpers. Sunday, Western fired 37 shots at Windsor goaltender Amanda Cretto but the second-year Ajax, ON native would not be beat as the Lancers earned a 4-0 win. Lauren Swartz, Alison Goodman, Megan Casey and Jodilyn Brown all scored for Windsor, while Mara DeLaroche and Allison Fair added two assists each.
