BURROWS, WHITTAKER BOAST BRONZE AT CANADA SUMMER GAMES
Burrows (Richmond Hill, Ont.) and Whittaker, of the University of Western Ontario Mustangs, defeated Team Manitoba 2-0 in the bronze-medal match. The duo pulled through to take the first set 22-20 and dominated the second set, 21-12, to secure a spot on the podium. Burrows recorded 11 kills, 10 digs and two serving aces in the win.
The Team Ontario pair went 5-0 in round-robin competition, defeating Newfoundland & Labrador, Saskatchewan and North West Territories 2-0 in their first three matches and edging New Brunswick and British Columbia 2-1 to secure a first-place ranking and a bye into the semi-final round.
Burrows and Whittaker fell 2-1 (19-21, 21-18, 7-15) in the semifinals to the eventual champion from British Columbia in a very close match-up.

The 2009 Canada Summer Games continue through to August 30 with five other Varsity Blues set to compete in week two of competition. Kate Ruediger will compete in track and field, while Curtis Samuel, Mike Smerek, Zack Summerhayes and Nick Karpov will take to the pool in the swimming competition.
