GEE-GEES SWEEP THUNDERWOLVES IN WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
In the first set, the Gee-Gees and the Wolves were point for point early on, but after being tied 12-12 the Gee-Gees picked things up and dominated the rest of the set to win it 25-14.
The Gee-Gees took the first point in the second set and continued to build on the momentum in the first half. Fourth-year setter Tess Edwards (Kanata, Ont.) had a nice dig from out of bounds to save the ball for the Gee-Gees and first-year Melissa Morelli (London, Ont.) and second-year middle Kathryn Weihrer (Ottawa) both had impressive hits to help secure a lead. Despite losing a little bit of focus halfway through the set, the team bounced right back to capture the set with a score of 25-22.
After winning the first two, the Gee-Gees weren't ready to give up the third set and went on to defeat Thunder Bay 25-18.
Morelli, a first-year student in Lettres Françaises and Gee-Gees player of the game, was happy with the outcome.
"We worked really hard today, and were able to brush things [mistakes] off."
Third-year Jill Bodak (Thunder Bay, Ont.) was the player of the game for the Thunderwolves.
Gee-Gees head coach Lionel Woods was equally pleased with the team's performance.
"Tonight we did a great job," said Woods. "We are going to make mistakes, but tonight we were really good about bouncing back; the team is really positive."
The Thunderwolves will be in Ottawa overnight and face the Gee-Gees again Friday night at 7 p.m. at Montpetit Hall.
