WINDSOR EXTENDS LEAD IN THE OUA WEST
The CIS seventh-ranked Windsor Lancers (7-2) extended their lead in the OUA West Division with a five-point win over Wilfrid Laurier in Waterloo on Saturday. Forth-year forward Kevin Kloostra (Chatham, Ontario) led all scorers with 25 points on 10-for-20 shooting from the field. The Lancers outrebounded the Golden Hawks 47-33, and were led by third-year wing Greg Srmacz (Peterborough, Ontario), who hauled down a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with 16 points for the double-double. Windsor may have shot .462 (30-65) from the field but they kept Wilfrid Laurier in the game by turning the ball over 23 times. Rookies Justin Golob (St. Catharines, Ontario) and Evan Eliason (Guelph, Ontario) scored a team-best 15 points for the Hawks while fourth-year post Trevor Csima (Oakville, Ontario) picked up the double-double with 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.
Carleton 59, Toronto 56
It may not have been a solid display of offensive talent, but a chippy, hard fought game with the home side victorious was still a crowd pleaser. The nation's top team needed a serious second-half comeback to keep its perfect season in tact as Carleton (10-0) erased a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat Toronto, 59-56, in Ottawa. Ravens third-year forward Aaron Doornekamp (Odessa, Ontario) tied a game high with 16 points on five-for-nine shooting from the field, to go along with six rebounds and three assists. Varsity Blues veteran forward Mike Williams (Brampton, Ontario) also netted 16 points (6-9 FG) and grabbed five rebounds. Toronto (4-6) led 34-25 at the break but managed just 22 second-half points. The Blues shot a dismal .450 (9-20) from the free throw line, including Williams, who was four-for-10. Osvaldo Jeanty chipped in 15 points for the Ravens but needed 17 shots (4-17) from the field and went two-for-11 from beyond the arc. Despite losing its first two games of 2007, Toronto has the rest of the OUA on the lookout after losing to Carleton and Ottawa by a combined four points on the weekend.
