CARLETON WINS CLOSE CONTEST AGAINST BROCK, WHILE OTTAWA GIVES GRYPHONS FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON
The Carleton University Men's Basketball team defeated the Brock University Badgers (5-3), 71-68 this past weekend to improve their OUA East record to 8-0. The Ravens have now won 10 straight OUA & CIS regular and post season games dating back to the 2007 CIS National Championship Tournament.
For the second straight game a very good OUA West opponent gave the five-time CIS National Champion Ravens a great test and when the final whistle blew the Ravens defeated the home team Badgers by three points to remain undefeated in the 2007-08 OUA regular season.
The Ravens led by two points after the first quarter, 20-18, but an excellent second quarter by Brock, left Carleton down by four points, 37-33 at the half. The third quarter has been Carleton's most productive all season and tonight was no different as they out scored the Badgers 23-13 to regain the lead and never look back as they held on to win by the slimmest margin so far this season.
The Ravens were led by veteran Forward Aaron Doornekamp (Odessa, ON) with 24-points and 11-rebounds. Stuart Turnbull (Kingston, ON) added 18-points as nine different Ravens scored at least 2-points in the victory over Brock. The Badgers were led by Brad Rootes, with a game high 28-points, in the loss to Carleton.
Ottawa 76, Guelph 64
The Guelph Gryphon men's basketball team (6-1) dropped their first game of the season to the Ottawa Gee Gees (7-0) on Friday night, 76-64 at the W.F. Mitchell Athletic Centre in Guelph.
The Gee Gees tough defense proved too much for the Gryphons on the night as they forced 19 turnovers and lead by as many as 16 points in the contest.
The Gryphons registered three players in double digits led in scoring by Nick Pankerichan (Hamilton, ON) who finished with 11 points while Borko Popic (Waterloo, ON) and Jonathan Moscatelli (Toronto, ON) scored 10 points apiece. The trio went a combined 11-for-32 on the night.
Guelph was just 25-for-61 (41%) on the night compared to Ottawa at 32-for-57 and 56.1% shooting. The Gee Gees struggled from the 3-point range, shooting 1-for-11 but made up for it as they shot 67% from inside the arc.
