LANCERS SEASON ENDS AS THEY FALL TO CONCORDIA 79-62
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia. - The Windsor Lancers Men's Basketball team's season ended on Saturday afternoon as they fell 79-62 to the Concordia Stingers in the Consolation Semi-Final at the Halifax Metro Centre in the CIS Final 8 National Championships.
The fifth seeded Lancers end their outstanding season as the 2007 Wilson Cup OUA Champions and the 8th ranked team in Canada.
On Saturday afternoon, a determined Concordia team came out on fire, as they opened up an early 7-0 lead to start the game. The Lancers trailed by as many as 24 points in the first half, before a late surge brought them back to 48-27 down at the break.
The Lancers had trouble controlling Concordia's post play as forward Patrick Perrotte was able to effectively score inside en route to 25 points on 10-13 shooting.
In the second half, Windsor tried to mount an early comeback, but Concordia continued to make shots as they opened up a 70-41 lead.
With the game out of reach, Lancer Head Coach Chris Oliver brought in his talented group of freshmen, led by Tyler Carey, Kevin Cameron and Conor Allin. The youthful Lancers proceeded to outscore Concordia's starters 21-9 down the stretch, but it was not enough as the Stingers outgunned Windsor 79-62.
Concordia was led by Perrotte, who finished with a game-high 25 points and 5 rebounds. They also got 10 points and 11 rebounds from forward Jamal Gallier and 8 points and 8 assists from guard Damian Buckley.
Windsor was led by guard Matt Handsor who finished 20 points on 7 of 14 shooting. Tyler Carey chipped in with 5 points and 6 rebounds and Kevin Cameron added 6 points and 6 rebounds.
The Lancers shot 33% from the field in the game on only 20 of 61 shooting and 7 of 27 from three point range.
With all members of Coach Oliver's squad eligible to return next season, the Ontario Champion Lancers are poised to continue their run as one of the top programs in the country.
