MBNA CAPITAL HOOPS CLASSIC TICKETS IN HIGH DEMAND
With less than a week to go before the event, more than 8,000 tickets have been sold, while fewer than 100 tickets are available in the 100 and 200 levels at Scotiabank Place. In response to the demand for the event, a new block of tickets in the 300 level at centre court has been opened up for purchase.
\"We are very pleased at how the local basketball community has embraced the inaugural MBNA Capital Hoops Classic," said Cyril Leeder, COO of Scotiabank Place. "As part of the event, Scotiabank Place will be hosting games at all levels of basketball, including club teams, high school games and the feature matchup between Carleton and the University of Ottawa.\"
This game will mark the first of an annual regular-season event between the two schools and will present some of the finest basketball players in the country. Carleton University entered the 2006-07 season as an unprecedented four-time defending national champion. During their four-year reign, the Ravens established a Canadian Interuniversity Sport record by winning 87 consecutive games, both regular season and playoffs. The University of Ottawa has also jumped into the spotlight as a national power in men's basketball. It was ranked in the Top 10 in Canada for much of the 2005-06 season, with its ranking peaking at No. 2 in the country for two weeks in January and February of 2006. As of the latest CIS national basketball rankings, issued on Jan. 16, Carleton (12-0) is the No. 1 team in the country, while Ottawa (10-2) is ranked No. 7.
The MBNA Capital Hoops Classic will be the first event leading into the CIS men's basketball championships, which will be staged at Scotiabank Place in March of 2008, 2009 and 2010.
