YORK UPSETS No.1 CARLETON, WINDSOR STAYS STRONG IN WEST
It was the tale of two halves as the York Lions (10-6) held on to complete the upset, as they knocked off the No. 1 Carleton Ravens (15-2) 95-81 Saturday night. York had five players in double figures, and with the win now sit in a tie for third place in the East division. The first half saw York take full control of the game entering half time with a 61-22 lead. York on the night was led by Tut Ruach (Toronto, Ontario) and Captain Daniel Eves (Barrie, Ontario) with 26 and 24 points respectively. Eves had a near perfect touch as he went seven for eight from the field, and five for six from the charity stripe. Ruach was impressive from the free throw line as he went a perfect 10 for 10, and shot seven for 14 from the field. The second half saw Carleton battle back, with a second half score of 59-34, but the lead was too great as York took the eventual win. The Ravens were led by veteran standout Osvaldo Jeanty (Gloucester, Ontario) who had a game high 30 points. Carleton now sits just two points ahead of Ottawa (14-3) in the East Division standings.
McMaster 66, Windsor 85
The No.5 Windsor Lancers (12-3) drained seven three-point baskets in the first half, opening up a 51-30 lead entering half time against the McMaster Marauders (8-7), before cruising to an 85-66 victory. With the win the Lancers solidify their lead in the West by six points over the second place Brock Badgers (9-6). Kevin Kloostra (Chatham, Ontario) led the way for Windsor with 24 points on the night shooting eight for 16 from the field and four for five from the foul line. First year, six foot eight forward, Greg Surmacz (Peterborough, Ontario) chipped in with 20 points of his own. After struggling in the first half, McMaster’s Martin Ajayi (Hamilton, Ontario) paced the Marauders with 24 points, in addition to dishing out six assists. Fifth year forward Adam Steiner (Dundas, Ontario) also had an impressive night finishing with 18 points and 15 rebounds for the double-double. With a couple of Western wins, McMaster now sits tied for third with the Mustangs (8-7) in the West.
