LAKEHEAD AND WATERLOO SPLIT WEEKEND SERIES
The Lakehead Thunderwolves (12-5-2-1) earned a weekend split with the No. 6 Waterloo Warriors (16-3-1) as the Wolves shut out the Warriors 3-0 Saturday night in a hard-fought game at Thunder Bay’s Fort William Gardens. Chris Whitley (Oshawa, Ontario) recorded the shutout for Lakehead stopping all 28 Waterloo shots. It was a gritty game from both teams which saw 33 penalties assessed throughout the contest. The first period saw a back and forth battle before Lakehead put themselves ahead in the second period by goals from Brad Priestlay (Kamloops, British Columbia) and Richard Molenaar (North Delta, British Columbia). Andy Zulyniak added a late third period powerplay goal to ensure the win for Lakehead. With the series split between Waterloo and Lakehead and two Western wins against Windsor (8-11-0), the Mustangs (11-5-2-2) now move within a point of division rival Lakehead Thunderwolves.
