Saturday November 10, 2007 - Western 6, Brock 0
The University of Western Ontario (6-2-0-2) ran away with a big win over Brock University (8-2-0-2) in Saturday's league action. The game marked a re-match of sorts of last year's playoff series in which the Mustangs defeated the Badgers in double overtime of the final game.
Western took advantage of a slow start by the Badgers who found themselves on a penalty kill early in the first. Mustang Kevin Richardson (South Surrey, BC) redirected a shot from the point to give the Mustangs a powerplay goal and the opening lead. Western's goaltender Brad Topping (Strathroy, Ont.) was steadfast in goal, keeping a clean sheet in the face of Brock's admirable opportunities.
In the second period Richardson would net his second of the night on another powerplay for a 3-0 Western lead. In the third period the game roughened up as Brock attempted to breakdown a solid Mustang defense. Doing so prompted many Western counter-attacks as they added three more goals in the final 10 minutes from Peter Franchin (Mississauga, Ont.), Sean Courtney (Ennismore, Ont.) and Luc Martin (St. Thomas, Ont.).
