PETE BELLIVEAU NAMED HEAD COACH OF LANCER MEN�S HOCKEY PROGRAM
Widely regarded as one of the finest coaches in Canadian University Men’s Hockey, Belliveau has captured a CIS National Championship with the University of Moncton Aigles Bleus and a Queen’s Cup Ontario Championship with the Lakehead University Thunderwolves in 2006.
Belliveau joins the Lancers after spending the past 6 seasons with the Lakehead University Thunderwolves. During that time, he led Lakehead to an impressive OUA regular season record of 91-44-11 and a 26-12 playoff record. His teams were unbeatable at home in the playoffs, as they enjoyed a 13-0 record at Fort William Gardens in the playoffs during his tenure.
In 2006, his Thunderwolves squad captured the Queen’s Cup Ontario Championship and went to earn the silver medal at the CIS National Championships in Alberta. During his 6 years, his program won two OUA Far West Division titles and a Queen’s Cup title.
“We are thrilled to have Pete join our program,” commented Grace. “Pete is an excellent recruiter and a proven winner, as evidenced by the provincial and national championships that he has won. He did a great job building the hockey program at Lakehead and we are looking forward to him leading Lancer Men’s Hockey into the future.”
Before taking over the Thunderwolves, Pete served as the Head Coach of the University of Moncton Aigles Bleus Men’s Hockey program. At the University of Moncton, Belliveau captured a CIS National Championship in 1995, two AUS Championships in 1995 and 1999 and was named the Sports Moncton Excell Coach of the Year in 1996.
A native of Moncton, New Brunswick, Coach Belliveau is excited to be taking over behind the bench for the Lancers.
“I am very excited to be coming to the University of Windsor and taking over the coaching duties for the Men’s Hockey program,” commented Belliveau. “I’m looking forward to the challenge of building a championship calibre program and building upon the great hockey tradition in the Windsor-Essex community.”
Pete earned his Bachelor of Physical Education from the University of Moncton and his Bachelor of Education, also from the University of Moncton.
