CARLETON WIN FIRST HOME GAME OVER UQTR, GUELPH WINS IN OT OVER BROCK
Carleton University (3-2-1) defeated the UQTR Patriotes (3-1-0-1), 2-1, at the Carleton University Ice House to win their first home game in 33 years. The Ravens improve to 3-2-1 for 7-points while UQTR sit at 3-1-0-1 for third place in the Far East division.
Although the Ravens were out shot 32-16 on the game, they came out on top, thanks to a fantastic performance by veteran goaltender Doug Jewer (St. John's, NFLD.) who made 31 saves on the night. All of the scoring took place in the second period when UQTR's Steve Bellefleur (St. Jean-Sur Richelieu, QUE.) scored the solo Patriotes goal five minutes in.
The Ravens pressured the UQTR defense and created good scoring chances throughout. With four minutes left in the second period Jared Cipparone (Tecumseh, Ont.) tied the game with a power play goal and his first of two in the game. Carleton would score the eventual game winner just two minutes later as Cipparone finished a pass from Gabriel Perreault (Mattawa, Ont.). The score line would remain 2-1 for the rest of the game, giving Carleton their first home victory in 33 years.
Guelph 3, Brock 2 - OT
The number eight-ranked Brock University (5-0-1-1) took on Guelph Gryphons (4-1-1-0) on Saturday night that saw the Badgers win in overtime over the Gryphons. In a physical battle, special teams play attributed four of the five goals scored in the game.
Just one minute into the game the duo of J.J. Martin (Thorold, Ont.) and Ryan Allen (Fort McMurray, Alb.) would connect for a power play goal to give the Badgers a 1-0 lead. Early in the second Brock capitalized again on the power play when Martin scored his second from a rebound to put the Badgers up by two. Guelph's Barrett Brook (Leduc, Alb.) would respond with a power play marker bringing Guelph within one. Derek Knowles (Vanderhoof, BC) tied the game at 2-2 before the close of the second to even the score.
Brock controlled much of the play in the third but the Guelph net-minder did well to keep the Badgers off of the scoreboard. The game was sent into overtime when Darryl Munch (East St. Paul, Man.) scored the game winner.
