GLODE LIFTS GEE-GEES TO WIN IN GAME ONE
The Gee-Gees can wrap up the series when they head to Kingston on Friday night for the second game of the series at Jock Hardy Arena at 7:30 p.m.
Pierre-André LeBlanc (Dieppe, NB) had a goal and an assist in the victory, while Jamie Brock (Burlington, ON) tallied the lone marker for the Golden Gaels.
The Gee-Gees dominated the opening twenty minutes, outshooting Queen's 13-3, but it was not until the 19:38 mark that Ottawa was rewarded for its efforts as LeBlanc banged home a Troy Duncan centering pass from behind the net.
Ottawa found itself down two-men to start the second period, but netminder Jordan Watt (North Delta, BC) made a trio of saves during the penalty kill to thwart the Queen's onslaught.
Brock ended the Gee-Gees luck on the penalty kill early in the third period, tipping a Grant Horvath point shot past Watt to even the score at 2:43.
Watt, who made 16 stops, saved his best performance for the final 90-seconds as he robbed Queen's captain Brad Walford with a spectacular blocker save to preserve the tie and set up Glode's heroics.
Queen's netminder Ryan Gibb made 33 saves in the loss.
