York 39 Toronto 11
TOTONTO - Quarterback Bart Zemanek's three touchdown passes in the second half were all the York University Lions needed to beat the Toronto Varsity Blues, 39-11, at York Stadium on Saturday. The win was York's 12th-straight in the Annual Red & Blue Bowl game and the team's first of the season. The Blues fall to 0-5 on the year and have lost 38-straight.
UofT opened scoring early in the first quarter with a rouge and a 33-yard field goal by kicker Joseph Valtellini. The Blues 4-0 lead after one quarter, however, did not last as York led 10-4 at the break after a 21-yard field goal by kicker Mike Kosteski and a six-yard touchdown run by Pearce Akpata. The score was the Lions first touchdown since week two of the season.
York exploded for 29 points in the second half as Zemanek connected with co-captain Ricardo Hudson (21 yards) and rookies Steven Hughes (11 yards) and Jonelle Tolbert (19 yards) to put the game out of reach. A 13-yard score by halfback Jocelyn Courcelles and a Kosteski rouge rounded out York's scoring on the day.
Zemanek completed 26-of-45 passes for a season-high 339 yards. Hudson led a strong receiving core with 116 yards on four catches, while Hughes added 82 yards on six catches and Cam Worsley had 72 yards on seven receptions.
For the Blues, quarterback David Hamilton connected on 19-of-32 passes for 194 yards. He also had a two-yard touchdown late for Toronto.

Mike Tutty led the Blues on defence with six tackles and one assist, while Matt D'Souza added five tackles and one assist.

Western 28 Windsor 18
LONDON - The Western Mustangs improved to 3-2 with a 28-18 victory over the Windsor Lancers (2-3) at TD Waterhouse Stadium on Saturday afternoon in front of 10,800 proud, purple fans and alumni.
Paced by a strong running game in the red zone, Western had touchdowns from Randy McAuley, D.J. Bennett and Michael Faulds along the ground to secure the victory.
McAuley was strong, rushing 12 times for 87 yards, while Bennett amassed 33 yards on 13 carries. Faulds carried for 29 yards while Jay Akindolire picked up 22 yards on the ground.
Faulds was also 12/27 with one interception.
In the first quarter, with Windsor pressing deep in Mustangs' territory, Mustang Nick Kordic made the first big play of the game with an interception with 7:09 left to keep the game scoreless.
Later in the quarter, Western receiver Anthony Adderley made a brilliant, 36-yard-catch in triple coverage to set up the Mustangs' first touchdown.
The touchdown was scored the next play and was a 29-yard-dash courtesy of McAuley, who dodged one of the referees and then stayed on his feet after contact from three Windsor defenders for the touchdown with 2:34 left in the first quarter.
The Western defence played well early, smothering the Windsor passing game in first quarter, limiting easy catches.
Western's Corey Watson came up with a huge punt return in second quarter at the six-minute mark, to start the play at Windsor's own 25-yard-line.
Schiavone kicked a 32-yard field goal to extend Western's lead to 10-0.
Western took an 11-0 lead after a 62-yard Schiavone punt for a single point rouge, but Windsor's Glenn MacKay brought the Lancers back into the game with a great 21-yard touchdown reception with 1:20 left in the half, left wide open in the end zone.
The Lancers would add a 28-yard field goal with seconds remaining in the first half, and Western held an 11-10 lead into the locker room.
After a sluggish opening to the second half, Western converted with an opportunity midway through the third quarter on the goal line as Bennett followed in some great blocking to give Western the 18-10 lead.
Faulds extended the lead to 25-10 later in the third, on a second effort off the quarterback sneak.
Western's running game was great on the day, amassing 171 yards while driving the ball down Windsor's throat and tiring out their defensive line.
Schiavone added a 12-yard field goal late in the third to give Western a 28-10 lead.
Lancer Nick Romain scored the final touchdown for Windsor on a one-yard dash with 2:08 left in the fourth quarter to pull them within 12 points, trailing 28-16. A two-point convert made it 28-18, which would prove to be the final score.
Western travels to Toronto to face the 0-5 Varsity Blues next Saturday at 2 p.m. at Birchmount Stadium before their final regular season home date when the Mustangs host the undefeated McMaster Marauders on Oct. 14, a 2 p.m. tilt at TD Waterhouse Stadium.
