CHRIS BEST INVITED TO EAST-WEST SHINE GAME
Best, a six-foot-four, 320-pound mechanical engineering student, has been selected as a CIS All-Canadian in each of the past two seasons on the Warriors offensive line. Prior to Waterloo, Best spent three years playing with the Duke Blue Devils in Raleigh N.C.
Best, a Calgary native, was selected fourth overall in the 2005 CFL draft by the Saskatchewan Roughriders and became the first Warrior ever to capture the J.P. Metras Trophy since the inception of the award in 1974.
Best becomes the first Waterloo Warrior to be invited to the East-West Shrine Game.
"I am absolutely ecstatic to be selected. This is a dream come true for me," Best commented. "It's an amazing end to an amazing season for me. I hope to make Waterloo and Canada proud that they sent me. I am very honoured to be the first (Warrior selected) but hopefully I won't be the last."
The Shrine Game is the premier all-star game in the United States, showcasing over 100 of top U.S college football players. Every year since 1925, the Shrine Game has been played to benefit children who receive free medical care at 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children throughout the U.S. This will be the 82nd game in this proud tradition. Over the years, more than 770,000 kids have been treated at no cost to their families. This is an opportunity for all players in the game to start the process of "giving something back."
Legendary NFL coaches Don Shula (East) and Dan Reeves (West) will serve as the head coaches for the game and will be assisted by several NFL assistants. Kick-off for the East-West Shrine Game is scheduled for 6pm CST and will be televised live on ESPN2.
