WINDSOR - The Lancer football team, led by Daryl Stephenson's 235 rushing yards and Nick Romain's 132 rushing yards, defeated the Toronto Varsity Blues 61-17 in front of 1,775 people at University of Windsor Stadium on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
The dynamic duo, dubbed \"Thunder and Lightning\" were completely unstoppable in the Lancers home opener. Romain (Thunder) finished the day with four carries for 132 yards and four touchdowns, while Stephenson (Lightning) finished with 12 carries for 235 yards and three touchdowns.
In his first two games in the OUA, Romain has carried the ball six times with an amazing six rushing touchdowns.

The Varsity Blues opened the second quarter with a couple of nice drives that resulted in field goals, cutting the Lancer lead to 30-9.
The Lancer crowd then got another thrilling \"Thunder and Lightning\" sequence, as Romain went 66 yards on a third and one play for his third rushing touchdown, followed by a Stephenson 55-yard touchdown run, giving Windsor a 44-9 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Romain recorded his fourth rushing touchdown of the day, as he carried the ball one yard for the major giving Windsor a 51-9 advantage.

Queen's 31 Guelph 10
GUELPH - Queen's wide receiver Brad Smith torched the Guelph secondary, as he had 4 touchdown receptions from quarterback Danny Brannagan in the Golden Gaels 31-10 win over the Gryphons.
The Gryphons trailed 14-0 early after two Smith touchdowns, but came back in the second quarter after a few strong runs by Justin Dunk and great passes to wide receiver Dave McCoy. Running back Nick Fitzgibbon ran in his third touchdown of the season, to make the game 14-10 with less than five minutes to go in the second quarter. The Gryphons had a field goal blocked with under one minute left in the first half, which would have made it a one-point game going into the half.
Early in the second half, the Gryphons made a couple crucial mistakes as Dave McCoy fumbled a punt and Fitzgibbon fumbled a kick return, which led to two more Smith scores.
The Golden Gaels were very strong on both sides of the ball as they dominated Guelph in the second half. Brannagan had four touchdowns passes and now leads the OUA with seven touchdown passes this season. Smith was the MVP of this game with four touchdowns, making spectacular catches all afternoon long. The Gaels defense held Dunk without a touchdown pass and an interception. The unsung heroes of the Golden Gaels were the special teams, which blocked a field goal and forced two fumble, which led to touchdowns.

McMaster 60 Waterloo 9
HAMILTON (ON) -- On Friday night, McMaster Marauder head coach Stefan Ptaszek told his offensive players what their first play would be on the following day. \"It helps them to visualize and get mentally focused for the game,\" Ptaszek said, \"and we tell them that the second play should be a convert.\" He wasn't that far off this week. Quarterback Adam Archibald hooked up with slot back Jon Behie for a 79-yard completion on the very first play of the game putting the Marauders on Waterloo's six-yard line. MAC RB Andre Sadeghian would catch a 10-yd TD pass (one of four touchdowns on the day for Sadeghian) two plays later.
The rest of the contest proved almost as easy as the first drive for the Marauder offence, as they racked up 400 yards of total offence in the first half, on the way to a 60-9 victory.
In his first start of the season, Archibald completed 11 of 16 passes for 233 yards and two TDs in just over one half of football. Behie finished the day with five catches for 116 yards and a touchdown. \"It felt good to be back out there contributing to a win,\" Archibald said.
MAC's running attack had a fantastic day, rushing for 352 yards. Sadeghian rushed 15 times for 119 yards and three scores, while adding 2 catches for 48 yards and a touchdown. Jordan Kozina only rushed six times, yet still managed 111 yards and a touchdown, good for a 18.5 yard average.
Former Hec Creighton winner Jesse Lumsden was in attendance at the Waterloo/MAC contest, and came away impressed at MAC's running game.
\"They've got a really diverse running attack. Having them both on the field at the same time really creates matchup problems. I could see either one of them ending up with 1000 yards this season,\" Lumsden said.
Waterloo QB Jon Morbey completed 15 of 26 passes for 140 yards. Travis Gellatly rushed nine times for 34 yards, while Sean Cowie led the team with seven catches for 67 yards. Linebacker Stephen Campbell had 10.5 tackles and a sack to lead the defence.
The Waterloo offence generated 20 first downs, yet could not score a touchdown as drives were stopped by inopportune penalties and four fumbles.
Linebacker Nick Burns forced his third fumble of the season and also picked up a sack along with six tackles. Defensive lineman James Edwards had two sacks. Rookie defensive tackle Justin Glover had two fumble recoveries, while Jason Arakgi led the team with 6.5 tackles.
\"Our defence has been flying around the field for eight quarters now,\" Ptaszek said.
Waterloo (0-2) travels to Toronto (0-2) next weekend in search of its first win of the season.
Meanwhile, MAC (2-0) travels to Ottawa (2-0) next weekend to play the Gee Gees in what will be the premier matchup in the CIS next week. Ottawa defeated Laurier 29-19 this weekend, and Western 17-3 two weeks ago.
NOTABLE: MAC led 17-1 after the 1st quarter, and 41-4 at the half... Most of MAC's offensive starters went to the bench three minutes into the 3rd quarter, with MAC leading 48-4... The Marauder defence has forced 11 turnovers in the first two games of the year. Rookie QB Ryan Fantham completed 5 of 6 passes in relief of Archibald... K/P Pauolo Faiazza averaged 39 yards per punt, and has now converted 7 of 8 FG attempts this season... MAC outgained Waterloo 644-242 in net offence
